I Got New Eyes!

I finally went to the eye doctor after about ten years and I finally got contacts... the problem is that it takes me about 15-20 minutes to get the little suckers in there. Any tips on getting them in there and removing them? Removing them takes about as long. Should I use drops to moisten my eye before trying to remove or will that make it more difficult? I've tried both ways and it takes me equally as long. I feel like a damned idiot trying to get them in and out.

Another thing... every once in a while they feel gritty. I've tried the drops that the doctor recommended but that doesn't seem to help for that long. Anything that I can try?

ooo. i want to do this too. i had soft lenses many years ago but got careless and sort of. . . lost them or something. also, it bothered me that they were water permeable and permanent, i heard a story about the bacteria that can build up on them and it's gross.

but the disposable lenses sound kind of nice. . .

i got no advice for getting them in your eyes smoothly but i remember it used to be easy when i just assumed i'd succeed and pop them in more or less confidently. when i got nervous and dabbed about they didn't go in so well

Give yourself a couple of weeks, and they'll be no problem at all.

It's all about having the confidence to touch your eyes!

It'll become second nature soon, even though right now it doesn't seem like it will.

When you look back at this thread in April, you'll wonder why you were so worried, I guarantee.

And with regards to the gritty thing - make sure that they're not inside-out. That usually is the cause of contact lens discomfort, even though your vision may be perfect with them in like that.

That's probably why these weren't such a smart choice for me. I don't like anything to do with the eyes... especially sticking things in there. sad But, once I get them in I CAN SEE!

Yeah, see... I'm a dabber, too. I didn't get them before because I was afraid of the bacteria thing like you mentioned. These are the disposable, which is a good thing that I have a ton of them, because I've lost quite a few trying to get them in. Towards the end I'm gonna only have good vision in one eye or the other... smile

See... she mentioned that to me, too. About them being inside out, but they look the same to me either way I flip them. How can you tell?!

I hope you're right about my coming back and wondering what I was so worried about. She gave me a weeks supply for free to try and I finally ordered a year supply thinking that it would become easier on me, and now I wonder if I shouldn't have just gotten the glasses. I still take just as long as I did the first day. I think my biggest fear is that I will tear it while trying to get it in or out and she said it would hurt like hell if I did that. What if I DO tear it and can't get the little sucker out and have to go through pain and end up scratching my eyeball while trying to remove it!? That is what frightens me the most I think...

my big (irrational) fear with contacts was that they'd slide around to the back of my eyeball and get stuck there. come to think of it that still creeps me out.

maybe i won't get the contacts. i kinda like my glasses anyway redface

Totally, dude. How is it impossible?

Obviously, they can only go to far to the sides, but why can't they get stuck beyond your reach?

exactly my point. like, if we can roll our eyes up into our heads, then why can't we roll the contacts up there too? i remember being very careful for a while when i first got mine never to look *too* far up, down, to one side or the other .. . lol

Too much work.

That's fantastic, June! I wanted to do the LASIK but it was too costly for me right now. A few friends of mine have had that procedure and have had wonderful results... that's something that I want to get done one day.

You tried them in '93... any tips?

Uh... no. I was very uncomfortable with them... I lasted about three months. (a very expensive experiment!) 'Course, it didn't help that I was in a very high level PARTY MODE at the time... too drunk, too careless... too "tweaky". :disbeleif: I didn't do too well.

But when I first tried them on at the doctor's office... OMG! It was like - wow, so this is what it's like for people who see good naturally.... neutral

Now, I'm living the dream. I hope you can afford LASIK someday soon, you just won't believe it!

They've always been Hoochie Mama Green! Enhancing that Hoochines would have been a little extra and, well, I couldn't afford that. sad

I have wore contacts since I was 14. It takes time to get used to taking them in and out. Just make sure you wash your hands really well before taking them out or putting them in. And what ever you do....do not fall asleep with them in. I do that shit all the time and I have to walk around with eyes all red looking like I am stoned as hell, cause I lost my glasses. sad
