Does someone here like Robert De Niro as a Director ---> for example Bronx Tale...

Bronx Tale is Robert DeNiros directing debut is an acclaimed coming-of-age story set in an Italian neighborhood in the Bronx in the early 1960s. The story was written by another one of its stars, Chazz Palminteri. Its about a young boy, Calogeno. Who grows up idolizing the neighborhoods biggest gangster Sonny, played by Palminteri. He helps out Sonny and gets the opportunity to hang out and do things for him. But Calogeno(Francis Capra) is torn between his fathers lifestyle as a hardworking, honest city bus driver and the more exciting lifestyle of Sonny(Chazz Palminteri). Along with directing DeNiro plays Calogeno's father Lorenzo Anello, a hard-working bus driver who must stand up to the local mob boss if he is to keep his son from falling into a life of crime. The years pass--Calogero (Lillo Brancato) slips into the company of a bad crowd of thieves and racist hoodlums at school and at the same time falls for a black girl, Jane (Taral Hicks), failing to understand the hypocrisy of the situation. It is Sonny who rescues him from impending disaster. By the age of seventeen, Calogero has learned from these two very different men, sometimes at great personal expense, about life and love and accepting people for what they are. Joe Pesci in a cameo role .....A must see film both sentimental and great show of proof of Influence from Martin Scorcese...The next film he will Direct is "The Good Shepphard" (starring Leonardo DiCaprio)coming to the screens This year.....I cant wait....

I have this movie... it's one of my faves. I was hoping we'd see more from Mr. DeNiro as a director. Glad to see he's back at it.

So, you know how to tell if you've got a girl that's a "keeper"? Take the "Sonny Test"... lol

Technically, he'a already co-directed another film because Brando was playing the diva on set.

His direction of 'A Bronx Tale' was fine and I'm sure his empathy with the storyline and the setting was a contributing factor.

Let's hope he doesn't try to direct a comedy - that would be funny for all the wrong reasons.

During the production of "The Score" , Marlon Brando reportedly clashed with director Frank Oz, calling him "Miss Piggy", refusing to wear trousers so that he would be shot from the waist up, and refusing to come to the set when Oz was directing. Co-star Robert De Niro directed some of Brando's scenes. At one point, Brando was ready to walk off the picture, but stayed on after the producer handed him a plane ticket and said they'd see him in court if he did so.

I dont think De Niro will direct a comedy.....

Sonny: Alright, listen to me. You pull up right where she lives, right? Before you get outta the car, you lock both doors. Then, get outta the car, you walk over to her. You bring her over to the car. Dig out the key, put it in the lock and open the door for her. Then you let her get in. Then you close the door. Then you walk around the back of the car and look through the rear window. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in: dump her.
Calogero: Just like that?
Sonny: Listen to me, kid. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in, that means she's a selfish broad and all you're seeing is the tip of the iceberg. You dump her and you dump her fast.

I foo'kin LOOOOVE that movie... It's an MINI-EDUCATION in LIFE!

I remember recommending it to everyone I knew, sometimes forcing my copy into their

VCRs!... I just needed to share that piece of class with all my mates who hadn't seen it.

You can definately spot the Scorsese influences in the film too.

One of my favourite scences that bruv!....

"...these guys were known for breaking up bars, but at that very moment of all the

bars in the the towns... they walked into the wrong bar this time..."

That scence's so cool with the Beatles' "Come Together" single spinning away in the

back drop just before those bikers get a beat down! Mint!

"YOU SPOILED MY WHOLE FUCKIN' LUNCH!"...BANG! Baseball bat right upside the head!

This film is bloody brilliant, I have it on DVD and also have the magnificent soundtrack. Very moving & the many wise quotes that many should listen and learn from that are awe inspiring. Chazz & De Niro once again in fine form.

Another great movie with similar concept (mafia) from more recent years is Donnie Brasco.

I think as much as this particular scenerio emits "cool", or a form of "how 2 tell if she's the one"? 2 some people, IMO, I think its hilarious as well as ridiculous. If I were ( & have been) in THIS situation, I would & did assume the guy I was with had the keys 2 unlock MY door, so I'd wait 4 him 2 unlock HIS since he DID have the keys. Plus, not ALL doors unlock easily, nor are the locks easily identified on some cars. Also, HE could have unlocked HIS door from my side without the keys by automatic touch in most vehicles. AND, I would have thought the guy very strange 2 stand in the rear area of the vehicle looking through the window. I mean, what are U doing back there dude? Selfish 4 NOT unlocking the door? I dont think so. Plus some guys really hate U messing with their cars. Even locks... However, I loved Robert DeNiro, & still do, but my fav movie of his is TAXI DRIVER. What can I say???People, its THESE silly tales of judging someones actions by their personality i,e. in THIS instance that makes us miss out on someone who may really B special, & then U wonder why it takes soooo long 2 find someone????B careful 2 judge on flimsy innuendoes & superstitions. People R DEEPER than THAT!
May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. hug kisses
