Favorite TV Dads -- List 'em! I was just thinking about this today. Who are your favorite television fathers? They don't have to be good fathers, in fact, many of the greatest TV Dads are often horrible parents. But in terms of sheer hilarity, gravitas, compassion, smarts, etc., or a combination of all, I'd list these in no particular order:
1. Homer Simpson -- perhaps the greatest television character ever invented. 2. Cliff Huxtable 3. Fred G. Sanford 4. James Evans 5. Big Red (That 70's Show) 6. Tony Soprano (the ultimate combo) 7. Peter Griffin 8. Frank Costanza (Seinfeld) 9. Bernie Mac (not technically a father, but still makes the list) 10. George Jefferson 11. Archie Bunker 12. Gabe Kotter ( didn't do much parenting but still one of my fave TV characters) I am sure I am leaving some out . . . BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - This science-fiction series featured a dad who wasn¹t really a dad at all. The character of Captain Apollo (Richard Hatch) married a woman (Jane Seymour) with a child. When mom died, Captain Apollo took over the responsibility of raising her son, Boxey (Noah Hathaway). This was no easy task as Capt. Apollo was a star fighter who lead the fleet against the evil robotic aliens known as the Cylons. The scenes between Apollo and Boxey were touching ones, though, and it proved a man didn¹t have to be a biological father to be good dad. Here I am, you lucky people!
