Battlestar Galactica Fans Are there any fans of the Original Battlestar Galactica Series out there?
They finally released the remastered DVD set for the series for $80.00 (after I already downloaded it) What do y'all think of the new SCI FI channel series?? [This message was edited Wed Jan 21 21:45:43 PST 2004 by Savannah]

I liked the new mini-series, and I think it has potential to be a true series (if it's picked up - I've heard it's a dead franchise). We'll see.
I like the new Cylons (in human form) but I think the main sexpot model is WAY too similar to 7 of 9 from Star Trek Voyager. Other than that, it's not too much of a stretch. I mean, if I wanted to infiltrate a human colony, I'd send a sexpot too . . . The effects were really good for a TV show, and the premise (the same as before) is solid. I did NOT like the new Starbuck - played by a girl. But, Boomer is a girl now too, so . . . Overall, a really good revival. Hope it continues . . .

Its definately not a dead franchise. There were hundreds of petitions floating around boycotting the new show.. and a few old ones demanding a movie with the old actors http://www.petitiononline...ition.html
In reality the show was cut because production costs were to high. The special effects came right from the original team of the creators of Star Wars. But since Adama, Baltar & Lucifer had passed on.. the creators of the new series decided to reinvent the wheel. Since the first episode came out.. does anyone know when the next one is scheduled to appear?? or what the name of it is??

Theres this gigantic chunk of time between when Galactica ended and the Simpsons first started that I just stopped watching prime time TV.
So does anybody know when the next part of the new series is appearing on the Sci Fi Channel ? The home website isn't of any help. [This message was edited Wed Feb 4 8:51:43 PST 2004 by Savannah]

Thanks for ruining the plot. Damn! Actually, that's more of a subplot. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I loved BG as a child (big surprise, huh?), so I was fairly sceptical of the new series. It won me over, however, even if it had some major flaws. The one thing I was most sceptical of, the female Starbuck, actually wound up being my favorite thing about the new show. Edward James Olmos was also a FANTASTIC commander Adama.
I won't go into my complaints, since I don't want to spoil anything for folks like Gooey who haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I have to say they were minor. It has potential, and I look forward to the next mini-series. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. According to TrekWorld (a Star Trek news web site), the contracts of the Battlestar Galactica actors have been renewed, so we may see more episodes of the new version.
It will be interesting to see what part Boomer plays in this updated version. That's one possible plot element the original never had. I would like to see Count Iblis introduced somehow as well, if the series goes along far enough, and the beings of light. But let's see how they handle things first if they do new episodes. Great Battlestar Galactica additions in the future... lets hope they manage to introduce... The legendary Commander Cain L Series Cylon Lucifer Silver Squad Leader "Sheba" Count Iblis Athena More Socialators "Fleet hookers" C.O.R.A The Pegasus I hope they don't reintroduce Commander Kronus Muffet The Tic Tac girl from "Greetings from Earth" Hector & Vector Dr. Wilker Serena Super Scouts

I would love to see Prince introduce them as his background dancers for the next tour! I'd love to see their routine set to "Wedding Feast". Count Iblis in the ditch could sing about being a banished one in the digital garden! The producer of the new show said he's looking to bring back many of the original actors for guest roles---Dirk Benedict as Starbucks' dad, or Cain would be cool! I HIGHLY recommend the BSG box set: THREE HOURS of outtakes, bloopers, etc. A bunch of fantastic featurettes-some not even mentioned on the box---it's obivious that everyone involved in the show loved doing it. BSG is the BEST SF show ever! It's funky, cool, and didn't take itself so seriously. It was 70's-hip fun.Beats the hell out of "padewans" "midichlorians" and all that garbage talk that kills current SF. The problem with the new show is they don't get what made the old show cool. They just stole it's name, some design and story elements, and sleezed it up! That's so Hollywood now--take old successes and use their name to lure audiences then give them shit-thanks for the $$$/ratings!Examples: Scooby Doo,Flintstones,Starsky and Hutch, any post-Shatner Star Trek,... Prince should watch BSG and encorporate some elements into his tour!

Dirk Benedict playing Fred Astair's role of Starbuck's Dad in the Man with 9 Lives..? and why did they paint Vector's nose like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz? Well at least this time around Hector won't confuse Starbuck for a girl with long blonde hair like in the original series... or would they think the new Starbuck a boy. How much is that box set ? 80 bucks?

Chameleon probably won't necessarily be Starbuck's dad this time around.Vector,Ray Bolger played the Scarecrow in Oz.
It's a shame that Tom DeSanto's BSG didn't get made. Because of Sept 11, the production was put on hold-they went as far as to build new vipers and sets, and talk to the original cast about coming back.I know Richard Hatch and Noah Hathaway have spoken of it-how amazing the production art was. Now we have this new show which is horrid. There is a new version of the box set coming out that is not that massive Cylon Head, just a normal box, and cheaper. It's totally worth buying-especially for the 45-min retrospective that interviews all the surviving cast except Athena. Everyone seems to have loved making that show. They even interview guest stars like Patrick Macnee (looking very old) and the Borrilian Nomen; in addition to the writers, pretty well all the directors, the conductor, the creator Larson; there's featurettes on the Cylons and the Daggit/Monkey, the shows creation. The outtakes are cool too because there's whole storylines in episodes that never made it to air, and weird scenes like Adama leading a sing along. There's such cool outtakes-beyond anything you ever could of hoped to have seen, or expected to have survived these 25 years. Considering how so many dvd's con and rip you off by holding back, or release a "Special Edition" later-this set is totally crammed.

UPDATE
Ok.. accoding to Zoic Studios the remake mini-series has been given the go ahead for 13 episodes ordered by the SciFi Channel. No news yet as to when they'll be shown. I was reading about Tom DeSantos BSG... and if the mini series is a big hit... something might hit pay per view.

The production is starting in BC... I wonder what they will do with role of the bridge officer actor who died...
...It has been more than 40 years since the humans of the 12 Colonies of Kobol did battle with the Cylons - a sentient robot race who turned on their creators with deadly results. The robots have observed the armistice that ended the Cylon War, but the promised diplomatic relations between man and machine never materialized. Silent for years, humanity's deadliest enemies are now re-emerging with a vengeance -and this time they have taken on human form. Following a swift and deadly attack, the human race is once more reduced to a ragtag fleet of fighters, facing a final unwinnable battle. Do they make one final stand against the Cylons, hoping to triumph against all odds? Or do they flee in search of another hospitable world?

Yep..They are keeping Olmos.. I wonder if they will also keep Mary McDonnell, Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer and James Callis alive and well for the 13 episodes. Olmos, who will reprise the role of Cmdr. Adama said that he looks forward to deepening the character introduced in the Galactica miniseries that aired last December. "I'd like to see the complexity of what we've gotten ourselves into come about and really be able to understand it for what it is," Olmos said in an interview. "You've got to remember what happens when people are pushed to a level of unexpected changes. ... We can go to some places where the characters have never gone before." Olmos said that he has had several conversations with Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore about the direction he'd like to see his character take. "Space opera has always been plot-driven," Olmos said. "And in this case, if we can now, with a strong plot line, switch to character, you might have a way of exploring the human psyche in a way that we haven't seen." Olmos said that he believes a new Galactica may also have something to say about the times we live in. "Certainly, yeah," he said. "Because we're going to have to deal with problems that make the problems that we're looking at today on the planet look like." The characters in Galactica will try "to hold onto their humanity as it is completely taken away from them. If any indication was given to us as to where we're going in respect to the [series], I must tell you, it's going to be very explosive."

Yeah since the actors who played Adama, Baltar & Lucifer passed on.. the revival died. I hear rumor that Dirk Benedict is going to play Starbuck's father... The guy who played Lucifer was the late Jonathan Harris.. of "Dr. Smith" Lost in Space fame
