Jedimaster's Geek Movie News: Stuff about "Batman Begins"

Big Batman Begins Movie Update! Source: Superhero Hype! Tuesday, March 2, 2004

Wow, where to start?! Warner Bros. has quietly started location shooting for Batman Begins (the official title) and already a ton of information is hitting our desks and the Web. We'll start with scooper 'Joe Chill' who says the following is the official synopsis of the film from the WB's Intranet (includes possible spoilers)...

Director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia) and screenwriter David S. Goyer (the Blade trilogy) join forces for another action-packed chapter of the Batman saga!

As a young boy, Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of him--a trauma that leads him to become obsessed with revenge. But the opportunity to avenge his parent's deaths is cruelly taken away from him by fate.

Fleeing to the East, where he seeks counsel with the dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra's Al-Ghul, Bruce returns to his now decaying Gotham City, which is overrun by organized crime and other dangerous individuals manipulating the system. Meanwhile, Bruce is slowly being swindled out of Wayne Industries, the company he inherited.

The discovery of a cave under his mansion, along with a prototype armored suit, leads him to assume a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong; he becomes Batman!!!

In the new guise, and with the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various nefarious schemes in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan 'The Scarecrow' Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

Meanwhile, many of you have written in to tell us that the Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire, UK will serve as the Wayne Manor in the film. You can check out a picture of the house here:

As I understand it, they've cast him because they plan to do at least three movies, each occurring at different points in his career. Bale's a good age for this, because with makeup they can look older or younger depending on the time period. This flick is actually suppossed to start off with Bruce Wayne as an infant, so it really will run the spectrum.

Schumacher really screwed this up. May he NEVER direct any superhero movies again. Batman & Robin is definitely the worst and lamest of the Batman series, Tim Burton successfully brought Batman to life in his dark 1989 blockbuster and followed up with the equally dark and brilliant Batman Returns. Batman Forever began to let the series down but Batman and Robin ruined it forever.....Lets hope Nolan will do some justice.....Although i would have to say that Insomnia was pretty good but Memento sucked.....with his attempt to make a smart backward film.....

Fanmade. All the "posters" on the net right now are fanmade. There isn't an official one yet. The title has also never been "Batman V". This is a complete relaunch of the franchise, ignoring all the previous films.

While I agree with you about Schumacher, I don't completely concur with your opinion on Burton's films. They were decent, but hardly an accurate portrayal of the Dark Knight. Many representations in those films are just plain wrong when it comes to Batman. The Bat would NEVER kill henchman, have a Batmobile with machine guns and bombs, etc. These innaccuracies show just how little Burton paid attention to the source material. Likewise, many of the character traits for Catwoman, Penguin and the Joker were not true to the source material (and don't even get me started on the whole Joker killing his parents thing). Burton is a great filmaker, and his two Bat-films are good, but they are hardly successful when it comes to bringing Batman to life. So far, the best adaptation has been the animated series created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm.
