No Marketable Skills Here

I'm 19 and not a marketable skill to my name. College isn't an option and I can't do nails or be a trainer. What should I do?
If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

What skills do you have? You know how to use a computer, right?

You need to gain some kind of experience in a work environmentfor a couple of years doing entry level stuff as you buidl your resume.

Why is college not an option? What about Community College?

Whatever you do, be sure to do something you enjoy.

I and many others have followed a well-trodden path just because it was there to follow, and ended up pretty pissed and wishing they'd done what their heart told them to.

Hope things work out - everybody has a talent for something they enjoy. nod

How's posting on the Org helping you?
This isn't your first post on this subject so that's why I ask.

Hard work and paying to go to school (like some of us had to do) is not an option because?

Then find something you aren't "retarded" at and take a course in that. Apply youself to something that makes you happy, think of something you like to do and I bet you can take a course in that. There are courses for any and everything now - just pick and work hard at it.

your biggest problem is that you hate yourself. sad You know how to use a computer and are comfortable on the internet so there are two skills right there. If you've ever used a word processing program then you have another skill. You most likely have some others. You may not have enough skills to get some high paying CEO job but there's nothing wrong with entry level at your age. The more you work, the more skills you'll get and you can build up an impressive resume from there. After a while you may be able to afford to go back to school or your employer may even pay your way.

You should also try getting involved with a volunteer group. You can get some marketable skills and possibly some job leads. It also might help you with your self-esteem issues. good luck. hug

Only way you're going to be super-rich by 30 is if you work your ass off, get lucky or go into porn.

Now I can only recommend relying on the first of those.

You've got SHED loads of time. It's a long haul, you know?

Damn, i know people who are 30, 40+ and are beginning again, from scratch.

So do something enjoy and try not to worry about the $.

First of all change your mind. That's where your life starts and your mind is extemely NEGATIVE. Nobody here or anywhere else can help you with looking for the positives in life, rather than focusing on the negative.

You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. This is not my opinion but a FACT. The opposite is also true, if you tell yourself that you can't do anything, then you won't be able to. Period.

The fact that you say "you're retarded in everything" tells me this is where your mind is.

Realistically, at 19, it's impossible that you've tried EVERYTHING and failed. People fail at things every day but you learn why you failed and you go at it again. That's how people get good at what they do, not by giving up.

Happiness is in your mind, not by what you do for a living. When you are starting off in life, expect the shit jobs that nobody else wants to do and plan on getting paid very little. That's the way it is and it's also the reason you need to get into school. There you will be able to look at a lot of different options for a career to make more money doing something you enjoy.

Enjoy the little successes of getting a pay check and knowing that the bullshit jobs are temporary why you go to school. It's hard work and I hope you inderstand that there's no "easy" way to get ahead. Just hard work and using YOUR MIND.

If you are someone's alter ego, I hope you fall off the planet for wasting my time.
If you are sincere, read what I wrote, I've been there at 19.

peace

Don't sit around waiting, thinking you have all the time in the world. You'll be thirtysomething before you know it, and in the same boat.

I don't understand why college wouldn't be an option. Go to your local university and gather up some information on enrolling. Apply for a student loan. And get started. Freshman classes are a piece of cake, its like re-doing highschool all over again.

Once you get the ball rolling it will start falling into place.

Sweety, I advise you to go to your doctors and tel them that you have a major insecurity problem. It's not uncommon and it's not your fault. We all have a contribution to make but you always seem to be in a messed up frame of mind to realise this. Maybe it's childhood experiences that have messed up your judgement, set high expectations and has given you a negative oppinion of yourself, maybe it's hormonal or a condiction but u put yourself down way too much.

Come here hug Stay positive and you will land on your feet running. Your a lovely person, and lovely people get what they deserve, it's just a matter of time. kisses

IN the Navy you get to sail the seven seas, In the navy you get to I forgot the rest of the song but you get the point.

If you lack all of these skills why not get them and you can get a college education as well by joining the service. If you do good luck in the gulf.

Speaking of finishing things, I should finish some work as well. It's close but it's not complete.

What about the Navy

That indeed is her biggest problem. It´s so obvious that the reason that she can´t achieve anything is because she doesn´t believe in herself one bit and therefore doesn´t even give anything a real try. Seeing a counsellor or a shrink would be a good advice, but she´s so far gone into self-pity and self-hatred that she only listens "get-rich-fast" type of advice. And even those advice actually just give her yet another chance to put herself down.

So I really think we´re wasting our time here. sigh

U're wrong I want "get- a marketable- skill-fast" type of advice. and I want to teach myself rather than see a shrink
