Any see Passion of Christ Yet??? Ok I am far from one to post threads on movies.. especially ones that are so"controversial"...
But i went to see the movie last night.. and all i can say is HEART-WRENCHING.. That movie was sooooo emotionally draining..I thought it was VERY well done... All I heard at the end of the film were sniffles.. Yes, it was terribly graphic.. but being raised catholic and going to catholic school for 12 years, I knew what was coming on a whole through out the film.. but watching it on screen as Mel Gibson depicted it.. I was terribly moved and still "feel" it this morning. I would definlty say go and see it.. but i dont think it is movie that you would want to see over and over or that you could call it your "favorite" film.. Just my 2 cents.. Has anyone else seen it yet? The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom - Anais Nin

I did see it last night.
It is so powerful. I cried, and I cried. The love that God has given to us is more powerful than I ever realized. The pain and torture Christ endured is beyond what I ever actually realized. That in itself will change your heart. I believe that every person that sees it will come out with thoughts, and some type of emotion. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

I knew the story of it .. but you never really knew what torture and suffering Christ endured.. It broke my heart and the scenes with his mother were the most touching and heart wrencthing to me.. The last time I cried this much during a movie was when I saw Ghost. Hugs to you Sag.. The beatings were overdone. It was like 2 hours of Jesus gettin his ass kicked all over the place. The lashing itself would have killed him on the spot. They should have cut down on that and added some more flashback scenes from his life. Outside of that, I thought the production and performances were excellent. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

I'm curious. What do you .org'ers think P would say if he saw The Passion of the Christ?
*extra points for creativity* "Pedro offers you his protection."

I agree with EWM, the mutilation of Jesus was too over the top. If you're supposed to connect with him and understand his pain and suffering, past a certain point in the movie, I couldn't because it became so unnatural and exxagerated.
Visually the film is beautiful. Other than some tinted scenes, theres no goofball computer animations or tacky composites, at least nothing glaringly obvious. The water droplet scene was fantastic. The lighting is like a Renaissance painting in several scenes. I was also kind of suprised at how briefly they skimmed over jesus rising at the end. Also, what do you folks make of the androgynous character, especially with the (wig?) flying off? The people I saw it with immediatley assumed it was the devil. But the "it" seemed way too passive to me. It never really showed any pleasure or saddness at what it saw, it just observed. [This message was edited Thu Feb 26 19:47:25 2004 by Tom]

I want to see it.
I saw a movie on t.v. called Jesus of Nazareth and I was already bawling when he was carrying the cross through the streets and people being so cruel to him..... A lot of people criticized this film without having seen it, how sad. [This message was edited Fri Feb 27 0:44:41 2004 by luv4u] Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Keep in mind that shortly after that time, the Romans tied Christians to poles and LIT THEM ON FIRE. That seems a little "over the top" too, wouldn't you say? And when someone survives insurmmountable odds, we can say it is a miracle, but what do we call it when Jesus survives something heinous? "It didn't happen" "It was exxaggerated". I wonder if that was the final miracle He performed.....surviving the torture before His sacrifice. And if you think God and Christ are just a manipulative fallacy, please respect that some of us do not feel that way.....

that's what i'm talking about! I love the life of brian! I'm not sure if i'm going to see this movie any time soon. i'll porbably wait until it's on video or at the $2 theater so i don't feel like i've wasted my money if i walk out. I'm not a big fan of overdone torture scenes and i really don't like how cetain religious people, and to some extent certain religions, like to glorify blood and gore as if that somehow makes their beliefs more viable. There's more to Jesus Christ than the torture and humiliation he suffered at the end of his life and there's more to religion than blood and death. So that's why I'm so ify about this movie.

Mel did not travel back in time and witness the crucifixion and then travel back to the present and make a movie out of it. He claims that God made this movie through him and that is a claim that I cannot argue with but that doesn't mean that it's God's movie or that it's a perfect movie.

[This message was edited Thu Feb 26 19:47:25 2004 by Tom] I haven't seen the movie yet, and though I suspect I'll have a few personal problems with it from what I've been able to gather (some historical, some theological, some with Mel himself), I can't make any real claims about it either way yet. I will say, though, that going into it, I'm perhaps most intrigued by the androgynous "Satan" character that Mel is said to liberally use -- and I'm even more fascinated after reading your comment. The concept of Satan has been handled just about every way we can imagine in art, literature and film... every way, that is, but subversively passive (except for profoundly disheartening comments), emotionally unengaged (even in the joy of seeing suffering) and given to allowing humankind to plunder itself. This treatment posits Satan as more of a subtle and ubiquitous adversarial personal human spirit than an evil boogie man pursuing us all -- and that is pristinely Satanic. It's fresh thinking, and it's good to see. [This message was edited Fri Feb 27 14:02:22 2004 by Lammastide] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
