Keep in mind that shortly after that time, the Romans tied Christians to poles and LIT THEM ON FIRE. That seems a little "over the top" too, wouldn't you say? And when someone survives insurmmountable odds, we can say it is a miracle, but what do we call it when Jesus survives something heinous? "It didn't happen" "It was exxaggerated". I wonder if that was the final miracle He performed.....surviving the torture before His sacrifice. And if you think God and Christ are just a manipulative fallacy, please respect that some of us do not feel that way..... Please also keep in mind that this is Mel Gibson's take on the whole thing. Mel did not travel back in time and witness the crucifixion and then travel back to the present and make a movie out of it. He claims that God made this movie through him and that is a claim that I cannot argue with but that doesn't mean that it's God's movie or that it's a perfect movie. I agree with you

It is so powerful. I cried, and I cried. The love that God has given to us is more powerful than I ever realized. The pain and torture Christ endured is beyond what I ever actually realized. That in itself will change your heart. I believe that every person that sees it will come out with thoughts, and some type of emotion. Very well said Sag.. I knew the story of it .. but you never really knew what torture and suffering Christ endured.. It broke my heart and the scenes with his mother were the most touching and heart wrencthing to me.. The last time I cried this much during a movie was when I saw Ghost. Hugs to you Sag.. [This message was edited Thu Feb 26 9:49:20 2004 by BabyCakes] I just saw it with my parents, and it's a very, very powerful movie. I'm Catholic, but not terribly religious. I don't even remember when I last went to Church, but this movie made me want to go on Sunday.

Visually the film is beautiful. Other than some tinted scenes, theres no goofball computer animations or tacky composites, at least nothing glaringly obvious. The water droplet scene was fantastic. The lighting is like a Renaissance painting in several scenes. I was also kind of suprised at how briefly they skimmed over jesus rising at the end. Also, what do you folks make of the androgynous character, especially with the (wig?) flying off? The people I saw it with immediatley assumed it was the devil. But the "it" seemed way too passive to me. It never really showed any pleasure or saddness at what it saw, it just observed. I wasn't arguing that jesus wasnt tortured to an extreme level. My point is, if you're watching a movie with someone suffering, you can empathize because you're human as well and understand pain. But when the character in the movie starts crossing over into superhuman territory by surviving a beating that no normal person by any strectch of the imagination would live through, that connection with the character in the story is weakened. It was an observation and an opinion on how Mel Gibson portrayed it, not an attack on anyones (including yours) beliefs.

Its all good, Tom, I was in a really grumpy mood when I first read that thread. And I see what you are saying.
