I watch a lot of horror movies.... and I used to go to sleep with the Exorcist or the Shining playing on the tv, 'cause I had seen them so much they became abstract....

but the most disturbing movie I have seen in a long time is:

"Trouble Every Day"

I would not recommend this for everyone.

It's difficult and sometimes frustrating viewing, sure, but very beautiful and brutal, and ultimately an extremely fascinating film. 'Trouble Every Day's arthouse approach to horror themes reminded me a little bit of both Abel Ferrara's 'The Addiction' and Jean Rollin's 'Night Of The Hunted', but that's just to give you an idea of the strange territory the movie enters. Claire Denis is a lot less clinical and detached. It's a very emotional movie, and a lot of that has to do with Vincent Gallo's subtle performance. Gallo ('Buffalo '66', 'The Funeral') is a controversial figure as a person, but as an actor there's no disputing his talent. His wife, played by 'Ghost Dog's Tricia Vessey, is also excellent, and Beatrice Dalle ('Betty Blue')'s performance is way out there, but it's Gallo's movie as far as I'm concerned. This movie is not to everyone's taste (no pun intended!), but if you are looking for something different and are willing to put some effort in, I highly recommend this film. There's nothing quite like it. ....

Maybe sosgemini was disturbed by the tears that rolled down his face...
Bjork made it natural, innocent, and naively good. It is all Bjork matter: she is feeling all the joy and pain and daydreaming, saying all those words, singing all those songs, and dancing along to the music she so ingeniously composed. Lars von Trier once again wrote and delivered a 100% powerful film. He packs all kinds of emotions into 2 hrs. and 20 mins.: from the endearing friendship of two working women Kathy and Selma; to the faithful loving pursuit of Jeff for Selma; to the quiet exchanges of seemingly trusting souls of Bill and Selma; to Selma's son, Bill's wife, the crime, the court, the prison's loneliness within; the anguish pain of a determined mother; and the integrated mood changing musical numbers in-between. One scene of Bjork lying motionless with just one finger moving with quiet sobbing heard is powerful imagery. This film demands a lot from the viewer, in the sense that one has to sit through the whole thing. It's extremely heavy, and has traumatized myself, and several other people I have spoken too for several days. This film isn't for everybody, it doesn't stop for anyone, and is unrelenting, but it wouldn't be the same if it weren't. This is a film for anyone who loves to escape into worlds that spill with emotion.....

"from hell", starring johnny depp, is pretty disturbing. it's a period piece, a treatment of the old unsolved jack the ripper mystery. the most horrific aspect of it is the absolutely matter-of-fact way in which heartlessly cruel discrimination against the underclass is committed and justified. also the plot is also quite effective.

not to mention johnny depp has to be the most physically beautiful man alive drool

I loved Heather Graham there....But Johnny Depp's cockney accent made me wince at times, (it's much improved in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'!).....And the title explains where this movie is from...I kept waiting for the Inspector to start discussing England's chances of qualifying for the European Soccer Championships!

Reference to the below thread .....Al Pacino in "Cruising".....
this film was brutal. It will leave an impression on you. THAT'S A GOOD THING! It's what film is supposed to do! Amidst all this the journey of Al Pacino's "out of his element" slip into a different mindset was a great touch. It affected his whole being, his treatment of his girlfriend, his whole outlook. And it wasn't just because he got to dance with some leathermen, it was because the murder investigation he was dong was so horrifying. What, you were expecting a sweet ending?

Think of it like this: if this were a film about a lesbian leather culture, it would be hailed as an erotic masterpiece and after a night out at Hooter's, guys would gather 'round the tv to watch it on a nightly basis. Hmmm,,,,but when it's about MASCULINE gay leathermen, they can't handle it. People, wake up and realize that these gay men are not a threat and jeez, you straight guys need to realize you're not all they want to chase after.

So, Cruising is a successful combination of murder mystery, sex, alternative lifestyles and subcultures within that, and how getting into something too out of your element could affect you. After all these years, it still packs a punch and does what it sets out to do: unnerve you. It's a taught thriller and a mindblower in it's complexities. It brought such controversy that even SCTV did a spoof with a sketch called "The Cruising Gourmet" in which a leather-clad chef had a turkey on a table with legs held up to posts by chains!

The Excorcist, bar none.

when I was little there were others, but now that I'm a big girl they don't bother me so much, like Christine, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the like. I'm still a big baby and don't liek to watch any scary films, though.

Though for some reason I can deal with Hellraiser movies. I was especially fond of the first one.

Roman Polanski was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay (based on a novel by Ira Levin) and Ruth Gordon won the Oscar for best sipporting actress .....
And by the way if you like Lynchs stuff you should see what his daughter Jennifer Chambers Lynch did in "Boxing Helena"...She won the Razzie Award that year (1994) for Worst director....but i rather liked the film...A Sick, Weird, Bizarre and Erotic Love Story
Doctor Nick Cavanaugh (Julian Sands) is a successful surgeon, who lives with his colleague Anne Garret (Betsy Clark). She intends to get married with him. Nick is obsessed by the tramp Helena (Sherilyn Fenn), with whom he had some kind of shallow relationship in the past. Nick tries to get close to Helena again and one day, he convinces her to go to his home, to get her address book back. Helena discusses with Nick, and is hit by a car in front of Nick's mansion. When Helena wakes up, she is without both legs and abducted by Nick. Nick is taking care of her at his home. She tries to escape, and like a Venus of Milo, Nick removes her two arms, and keeps her hold to a wheelchair. A surprising end finishes the story. This movie is a polemic, sick, weird and bizarre love story. But also, it is very well produced, and has an unconventional screenplay. It is not a masterpiece, but it is not so bad: it is indicated to a very specific audience. However, it became famous when Kim Bassinger refused the role of Helena, after signing a contract with the producers. Due to the notoriety of this problem, this movie hit the wrong target-public. Everybody wanted to watch the film Kim Bassinger refused to act. The beauty of Sherilyn Fenn is amazingly highlighted in this film performing a bitchy woman. The director Jennifer Chambers Lynch is the daughter of David Lynch, and tried to follow her father's steps, with a very bizarre film. Unfortunately, this was her unique movie.

Lots of movies bugged me as a kid, but I can only recall a few that have absolutely destroyed me at one time or another. Don't laugh...

THE EXORCIST (I was a religious kid. Nuff said)
THE DAY AFTER (I actually didn't see this, but the clips and conversation around it really screwed with my head back in the height of the 80s' nuclear scare)
SILENT RUNNING (Corny environmentalist sci-fi flick, but the very end is sooooo sad)

The story is good but a little vague, the locations are nice and Tim Curry as the clown is totally fantastic. When watching 'IT' for the first time i was totally mesmerised at the TV and because of the excellent build up i couldn't take my eyes away from the screen but in the same breath it's the same excellent build up that makes a bad ending totally terrible! What a let down! Sitting through 3 hours to find out that the big bad monster is a stupid spider indeed!!! Hmph! I'm sorry if i didn't put up any spoiler alerts but the ending in itself is a spoiler so i've just done all you people who havn't watched this before a huge favour so you won't get your hopes up and think that the ending will be kick ass like the rest of the movie. Seems to me that Stephen King was stuck for an ending so went with a giant spider which in the movie hardly moves much and is poorly animated! I don't even care if the characters little minds couldn't see the monster for what it really was but i bet it wasn't that far from a spider and if it wasn't a spider what was the crack with all the webs!? IT WAS A SPIDER!!!! I get them on my ceiling all the time! I ain't scared of spiders! Can't believe it was a flipping big stupid gay lame ass spider!!! AARRRGGHHHH!!!! Worst ending ever! .....
