Jacob's Ladder
Very disturbing movie. Should have been much bigger but went straight to video here in the UK and got slept on for many years. Really crap, extras-free DVD release over here too.

Funny Games
Yep, it may be funny in places but it is very disturbing too. The actress playing the mother really rips your heart strings.

The Blair Witch Project
Opinions vary, I know, but the sound of distant, agonised screams really chilled my blood. I think it was atmospheric and orginal.

Das Experiment
Like 'Funny Games', it's not strictly a horror film, more a brilliantly made drama/thriller which had me on the edge of my seat

Jaws
Scared the crap out of me a kid. I still can't abide being in water where I can't see the bottom. I just think of that poster where you see the naked girl swimming along, unaware of that fucking huge gaping mouth of sharp teeth surging up towards her.

Madman
As the youngest member of my generation in our family, I walked in on my brothers and cousins watching this film. I tried to watch it with them but had to run out. I've not seen it since and I daren't in case it dissapoints. As I was 6 when this film came out, I have a feeling it probably won't have the same impact not that I'm 29. Anyone seen it recently?

I suppose i should give a shout to Deliverance. Beautifully shot and with occasional disturbance.

And although this is probably a bit cheesy & the film was a bit predictable, I thought My Little Eye was a bit grim.

WOW Deliverance.... is the fascinating, haunting and sometimes even disturbing tale by James Dickey, turned into a brilliant movie by John Boorman. It's about four businessmen, driven by manhood and macho-behavior, who're spending a canoeing weekend high up in the mountains. Up there, they're faced with every darkest side of man and every worst form of human misery...poverty, buggery and even physical harassment! These four men intended to travel down the river for adventure and excitement but their trip soon changes into an odyssey through a violent and lurking mountain-land, completely estranged from all forms of civilisation. All these elements actually make Deliverance one of the most nightmarish films I've ever seen. Just about everything that happens to these men, you pray that you'll never find yourself to be in a similar situation. Pure talking cinema, Deliverance is a very important movie as well. John Boorman's best (closely followed by Zardoz and Excalibur) was - and still is - a very influential film and it contains several memorable scenes that already featured in numberless other movies. Just think about the terrific "Duelling banjos" musical score and, of course, the unforgettable homosexual "squeal like a pig" rape scene. All the actors deliver (haha) perfect acting performances. Especially Jon Voight. A must see motion picture!!

...Anyway The Blah-vers the cast including Martin Sheen, Robert Loggia, Richard Masur and a young Jimmy Smits, along with John Schlesinger ("Midnight Cowboy") as director, your expectations would normally be high. But the downfall is the awkward script that's riddled with cliches, from the ominous warnings rambled hysterically by the rookie cop (Smits) to the lawyer friend (Masur) sticking around "just in case" and thus helping to save the day. Some scenes work (ex. - the opening scene, Sheen finding Loggia in his apartment, Masur's 'magic trick' as a defensive weapon), but most don't (ex. – the pointless tribal dance in the middle of the charity ball, Shaver's nude scene, and just about every part involving the bratty kid). All the stars involved in "The Believers" have done much better things both prior to and after this.Mostly this will bore, so maybe check out those first five minutes then fast forward to the final ten, heh heh. lol

I barely remember it. If I'm thinking of the right/same movie, all I remember is some chicken sacrifices, bugs coming out of someone's face, and a woman getting electrocuted by her coffee maker in the beginning. biggrin

I see Blair Witch Project mentioned, I didn't find it as scary as saw the movie the idea was based on.
The name escapes me right now U know tip of tounge type thing. It was about a search for the Jersey Devil 4 guys go into the woods and only one comes out. When I started watching it I didn't know it was a movie, just turned to it (IFC is beautiful), Thought is was a documentary about the lone survivors guilt or innocence. My girl at the time had to stop watching it 'cause it freaked her out but wouldn't let me move up to the living room & watch it by myself. So she sat with headphones on under the covers and made me turn on the light 'til it was over.
It gave me the creeps but I couldn't stop watching it.
I find it lonely being a loner

Rosemary's Baby" is a true classic of the horror genre.I know that "Scream" generation will find it boring, but those people are completely missing the point....Well Polanski is a genius....if you havent seen his "The Tennant"....you should see it immediately....

One thing for John Carpenter, he knows what's scary. And "The Fog", his first big movie after "Halloween", shows his strengths and weaknesses in one neat little package. But as far as scares go, "The Fog" delivers, beginning to end. Carpenter always was a good visualist. And there are moments here that will, indeed, make you jump. Watch for them. In this "Fog", keep your lights off; it's better.....and besides lighthouses are just plain scary!...

And then there is this Documentary that won the Oscar this Year ...."The Fog of War " a fascinating movie about a fascinating man...Robert S. McNamara. This is definitely an important and unforgettable documentary to watch...I'd say it does open up its door to some very important discussions about contemporary and future wars.

A classic Bette Davis and Joan Crawford...As Alfred Hitchcock´s "Psycho" (1960) is the origin of the modern horror film Robert Aldrich´s masterpiece is the grand mother of all psycho thrillers, full of subtle suspense and a menacing dark atmosphere. But it´s even more than that: "What ever happened..." is a brilliant film noir as well as a dark comedy and a sinister drama. Also the lead is stunning: Joan Crawford is pretty good as paralyzed and despaired Blanche Hudson, but Bette Davis´ performance is over the top, her part rules the whole film! Her role even may be the prototype for every female maniac in a movie! No matter what Rebecca de Mornay or Jennifer Jason Leigh did - Bette Davis did it already before! And, of course, it wouldn´t be a good psycho thriller if it hadn´t a really macabre solution at the (un-)happy end... Yes, this one´s another treasure of cinema! ....All the more reason never to eat the food your sister serves you.....
