Oscar Party Popcorn Recipes??????? Geez this world can piss me off sometimes. We're always having stuff forced on us, as if everybody is of the ilk that watches all the banal crap on American television and cares one way or the other.
Bloody Valentines Day and all that garbology, making people go out and spend money. They come up with all this stuff to make people spend their cash, and try to make people think watching certain shows or doing certain things is necessary since the whole world is doing it, when really they're not. The US is surely one of the most insular places in the world in this respect. Most of the time it's not even understood that people outside of the country aren't paying any attention to many aspects and examples of American "culture". Hey, this isn't a slight on what goes on in the US, u have some wonderful events and sports and stuff, but sometimes it feels as though some American people just don't realise there's a whole wide world out there. Who is Paris Hilton? I've got no idea, I just keep hearing her name. It's not important for me to know, yet u'd think that it was necessary in order to be a functioning human being. Why do I need Oscar Party Popcorn Recipes? Why on earth would I hold an Oscar party? Should I have a Super Bowl party too? I'm not American so chances are I don't care about the American version of football. Rant over. ... [This message was edited Thu Feb 26 0:50:45 2004 by fauxnewbie] | |

Ex-Moderator | I hear you. But these things are sort of national holidays. Not everyone celebrates, but a lot do. I don't give a crap about American football, but friends of mine hold a Superbowl party every year, and I go every year. It's mainly just an excuse to hang out with friends and family and be social and eat yummy food. But I don't expect the rest of the world to really care. Just like I don't celebrate Chinese New Year or Guy Fawkes day.
And I have to say, I'm very excited about the Oscar Party I'm going to this year. |

Of course! Darin usually has people over to watch and we make somethin' yummy to eat, but this year we're going to "Hollywood" at the State Theatre. It's a charity event for Minnesota AIDS Project. You watch the show on a movie-sized screen and there's a red carpet and everything. It's the biggest Oscar party in the country outside of hollywood. I'm mainly excited about the 12,000+ free desserts. |
