Israel Radio reported today that Thai police detained Israeli Eli Cohen on suspicion that he murdered and decapitated his wife, after a headless torso of a woman was found floating in a Bangkok river, officials said Wednesday.

Police detained Eli Cohen, 36, on Tuesday at the Israeli Embassy as he was filing a missing person's report for his wife, Carol, police Col. Niphon Chareonphol said. Cohen has denied murdering his wife but police have enough evidence to file formal charges, Niphon said. Cohen is reportedly not cooperating with police.

A woman's torso was found Tuesday stuffed in a travel bag that was floating in the Chao Phraya river, and the legs and arms were found Wednesday in a canal connecting to the river, Niphon said. The head remains missing.

Police detained Cohen after staff at a Bangkok hotel where the couple was staying reported finding a bloodstained towel in their room, The Nation newspaper said.

The couple checked into the hotel on Friday and a video surveillance camera showed them with a travel bag similar to the one found in the river with the torso, Niphon said. A taxi driver identified Cohen as the customer he drove to the canal where the arms and legs were found in a garbage bag, Niphon said. The driver told police that Cohen would not allow him to help remove a travel bag from the trunk, he said.

you know.. every time I read things like this, i wonder what could have pissed him or anyone off so bad that he would have gone "Kill Bill" on the wife.. hmmm..

Well, if he did it he probably had it planned way in advance. Bring the wife to a foreign country and hopefully he could get away with it. I don't undersatnd why he would file a missing persons report on her though if he killed her, because that just draws attention to the fact that, A. His wife was missing in the first place, and B. That he is the first suspect that they are going to investigate. The spouse is always the first suspected. He just dug himself a deeper hole by doing that.

He should have just left the country and not said anything. At least it would have taken them longer to track him down then.

The Chao Phraya is a NASTY river. I saw a whole, bloated pig floating in it once. No headless torsos though. People actually fish in it too.

Yeah that's a nice river there, nice and brown. Getting the long tail boats along it u've got to watch out for those floating body parts and whole pigs.
