san fran is a possibility but la is the concern here.

i know there are 1000 cali peeps here...certainly someone can answer my question. natsume, are you familiar with la? all kidding aside, i need to book a hotel and would like to be in a (relatively) safe area. it doesn't need to be the beverly hilton but something between that and the neighborhood brothel would be great, lol!

I love California! San Francisco is a great city, I have family that lives there, and Santa Cruz is beautiful, too. You should try to go there for a day!

I was in Los Angeles with my family last year, but we stayed at The Mosaic, which is pricey. I'm not too familiar with LA to tell you what areas are good and which aren't, but hotels.com and orbitz.com are two sites that give you descriptions and prices of all the hotels in any particular area. Also, a lot of sites offer discounts if you book your rooms through them.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

hey, thanks for the advice! i will check some of those sites out and hope for the best i guess. i have a friend who manage a travel agency, so i'll give her a ring too...she's pretty familiar with LA. i just thought, since there are so many cali people on the org, someone would have some local advice. guess not. thanks, though, velvet!

That's so cool! I really hope Prince adds more dates because the closest he's coming to me is Penn State, which is "too far to drive for a concert" according to my friends. I'm so pissed! Never too far to see Prince!

My friends and I are planning on taking a road trip for spring break, but we have yet to decide where we're going. We think we might just wing it,go south, and see where we end up. I'm thinking we might end up in Florida. I really want to go to South Beach!

south beach is a great place to visit! i lived there for about a year ('99-'00) and by the time i left i was so ready to leave! but, as a holiday spot, it is so much fun!

as for a prince show near you...he'll be playing ny, philadelphia and DC without a doubt. have no worries, you'll see him!

I thought so, I just wasn't sure if he was adding more dates or not. If he comes to Philly or NYC, I'm definitely there!

When I went to Family Jamm I stayed here:

Le Parc Suites is an all suite hotel located in a quiet residential neighborhood near Melrose and La Cienega in West Hollywood. The hotel could very well be Los Angeles' best kept secret. It is convenient to chic clubs, restaurants and upscale shopping, as well as many area attractions. Le Parc Suites recently completed a $2 million dollar renovation, which included building a completely new facade in front of the hotel. Le Parc provides extra large accommodations and wonderful amenities. This boutique hotel offers an abundance of style with a lack of pretension. It's like having a "pied a terre" in the heart of the entertainment capitol. The guest suites are extra spacious, starting at 650 square feet, complete with a kitchenette, a private balcony and a wealth of other amenities. The staff is trained to offer personal service without hesitation and to maintain a professional and friendly attitude. The hotel's amenities are outstanding, including a lighted tennis court, a rooftop heated pool with a whirlpool and cabanas, plus a health club with sauna and personal trainer. Le Parc Suites is minutes to fine dining, shopping and entertainment venues. .

Go with Madartista's suggestions and stay out of East or Southcentral.

Hmm... innuendo?
