June7 said: I'll be going under the laser beam for a little trim off my corneas!
The reshaping will take effect today at around 2:30pm, and will last approx. 4 minutes on each eye. Afterwhich, I will no longer have to wear glasses! I should be in and out in under an hour. This will change my life as I know it... I've been wearing glasses since the fifth grade. I'm very excited! I'll let you know how it goes... Wish me luck! (Un4SEEable edit... ) [This message was edited Tue Feb 24 16:10:02 2004 by June7] Good luck!!! I go crazy whenever i visit the optomitrist!!! Okay.. I'm feeling a lot better.
It was very scary. I was very nervous... but, that's my nature whenever I do anything requiring the cutting open of any of my body parts... my corneas are not excluded. I went in around 2:30 pm.. he didn't start the procedure til about 3:15... They put you in a regular optometrist room... you know, in the big chair... and numb your eyes with drops. From there, the doctor comes in. He looks at your chart again to make sure you qualify for the procedure. He warns you again, that this is not fool-proof, or that there isn't risk... he pretty much clears the way for him legally to continue. After that, we go into the LASIK room. I lay down on a reclining chair with a big machine hovering over it. Your head is placed onto one of the head rests that secure your head from moving too much. The nurse gave me this stuffed animal to hold (like a little beany baby) to make sure you keep your hands on the stuffed animal and away from your eyes. I thought that was really funny. The doctor begins to pour all kinds of shit into my eyes... slight stinging sensations, blurryness, etc... then he begins the procedure. He tapes my eyelids to my face with surgical tape (I assume). He then inserts this kinda eye ball frame onto my eyes that prevent my eyelids from closing... it's like a ring around my eyeball... it was a trip. Then the machine is turned on. It sounds like a dentist's drill, or some kinda motorized saw. I am told to focus on this red flashing light. The light goes dark... that must have been when they cut the lid off my cornea... soon I can see the light again... but it's blurry. I'm told to concentrate on the flashing red light. It looks like a railroad flashing light now.. only it's in the rain. My eyes are constantly watered down and pressure is on my eye. There's this clackity clackity sound going on... I am currently strangling the beany baby. My legs tense up and the nurse tells me to relax. In the meantime I hear all this mumbo jumbo about percentages and pressure and visual acuity from another nurse. During the procedure, the doctor is constantly talking to me about the weather, the wine country, how much the city has changed, etc... it's working... I feel less stressed, but still - my eye is being pressured. It's soon over. They cover the eye with surgical guaze and begin on the other... this one seems to take less time. He has less to do, it's the eye without the astigmatism. It's over before I know it. The time? 3:45. I'm given these anti-bacterial drops to insert... some liquid tears and some sunglasses. I'm given instructions to use these eye shields for when I'm asleep. They don't want me rubbing my eyes in the middle of the night. I see right now without glasses. It's kinda blurry, but I can tell... this is gonna work!!! I put my glasses on for the hell of it... the scene becomes blurry, I remove them and it's clearer without them! I'm very excited... did this really work?! I have a appointment with him tomorrow morning to see how well my vision has improved. This was not covered by my insurance. It's considered cosmetic surgery... I did get insurance rates though. The total... $2,500.00. I paid in $1,900.00 cash and $600.00 by credit card. A small price to pay for a life changing procedure! Thanks again for all the concern and well wishes! (can you get spelling surgery? edit ) [This message was edited Tue Feb 24 20:24:49 2004 by June7] |

I went to the doctor this morning for a check up... seems everything went well.
I spent the whole day today without glasses! I'm still trying to get used to that. This morning I woke up and looked at the digital clock in my armoir (sp?)... anyway... it was crystal clear!!! Normally I have to stumble for my glasses and then look at the clock. It was really weird! I spent the day pouring "Liquid Tears" into my eyes... also these steroid and anti-biotic drops I have to drop in at least four times a day. It's not so bad. Everytime I go to sleep, or take a nap, I wake up with better vision! This whole ordeal was incredible. I highly HIGHLY recommend this procedure to anyone considering it. Life is indeed good. (fucking spelling ) [This message was edited Wed Feb 25 22:29:39 2004 by June7] |

Wuss! Leave Deja alone! I choose not to wear contact lenses because my eyelashes are sooooo long and they fall in my eyes at least twice a day. Imagine wearing contacts and having to deal with that also Glad everything went well for 7! I'm gonna have LASIK surgery before the end of this year, but first I have to have surgery on my footsies! I'm gonna have to be off work for a month, and TOTALLY depend on Mrs. Adisa to take care of me! Won't be able to do a damned thing for a while. I'll let you guys know when it all goes down.... I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired! | |
