It's just singing. I didn't realise soul was exclusively black. James Brown described Joe Cocker as one of the greatest soul singers ever. I heard a duet years ago between the two, now i prefer JB all the way, but Joe smoked him that night.

And no, i don't think you're racist either lisa, but how offended would you be if this thread title referred to black wanting to be white?

C'mon, all hell would break loose!

well soul music is orginated from gospel music. Gospel music was donimate in black culture,
it's where the blues comes from, R&B and funk music. So put 2 and 2gether.

So am I. What a sad thread.

like 4 instants i'm driving in a car with my sister right, we pull up to this white boy he listening to some rap music, but as soon as he sees us 2 black women in the car, he gon turn his stereo up thinking he the stuff, we just laughed at him. Y'all don't have 2 agree with me, cuz i see this every single day. nod

disbelief
Lisa; you can't take one situation and apply it to everyone (of one colour). That's generalizing. Secondly, what is acting black anyway? That seems to me like you're limiting yourself as to what you are as a black person. Yes there are people who "act" like one thing one moment and something else the next. If they want to be "fake" in that sense, then let them be. I see what you're saying.. (as I said above 'Justin Timberlake').... but I think for the most part people see that and know what's going on. I think it's sad however, that you think everyone wants to be black. Perhaps you're upset that you're not white? Not an accusation, just trying to 'flip the script' and make you look at yourself and see what's really bothering you. I don't know. shrug Just hope you don't get bent out of shape about it. neutral

I love gospel, but that has nothing to do with my skin color. Or do you think that it does? neutral

i'm being honest y'all, i'm sure some of y'all may had said something that wasn't as accurate ya know. We have some prejudice inside, it's jutst that some maybe at a different degree then others. it may not always have 2 do with skin color either. it can have 2 do with peoples religion or peoples handicaps. We all have said something ignorant , not that it justify it , but u know what i'm saying wink

Then I guess it's fair to say that every black female who straightens her hair, or dyes it blonde, and wears light-colored contacts wants to be white? (Okay, some of us are born with these features, but y'all know where it comes from. And please don't give me that I'm 1'4 Cherokee, 1/4 Blackfoot, stuff! cause I can't remember the last time I saw a blonde haired, blue-eyed Native American.) For a long time the magazine Essence used to have the following words under it's title: "For Today's Black Woman." They did away with that qualifier years ago--thank goodness! We need to be a progressive thinkin' people. Besides, if Marie Claire magazine said some sh*t like that, sistuh's would be heated.

We should all come together as one. Don't know who'd do the dry cleaning, though.
