OH MAN!!!!!!!! Anyone here smoke? I went to the ER because I've had this cough for about two weeks. I though I got it from this guy hacking his lung up in a casino I went to. I couldn't breathe yesterday, so they took a chest X-ray. Doc says, " this looks good, this looks good, you've got bronchitis" He then says,"But this....this down here in the bottom of your lungs is the early stages of emphysema."
muthafuckin' WHAT?!!!!! Say that again please? I'm only 33 years old. I have to quit. He says that if I don't, I'll be on oxygen by 50. This really, really sucks. I have to give up my one, true friend who's been there for the last 16 years. I urge anyone who smokes to get a chest x-ray at least once a year, AND QUIT. If I knew then what I know now.....

Good Luck Gemini, I wish U all the best.
I'm in the process of quitting too. I started the Nicabate program recently and so far so good. It does take a lot of motivation but the reward at the end of the long road is worth the sacrifice, which includes a healthy longer life.

I've smoked for a long time and had quit for about 2 years.... about 2 years ago now.Since then I've struggled with the on again off again thing- but they do say it takes about 7 good attempts to quit smoking.. I know I will and am in the process now of being smoke free for about a week!! YEAH!!! I do use that smoke away program and it really helps.
So sorry u had to hear such a horrible thing- but do consider yourself lucky to have advanced warning... my mother passed away from a horrible lung cancer - nothing could be reversed when she found out. All the best 2 U!!! Love & Light

Zyban really helped me quit my pack and a half per day habit--it's a medication you stay on for a month or so that helps control cravings and obsessive thoughts about cigarettes. I drank a ton of water and ate Wintergreen Lifesavers like crazy, too. I avoided "triggers" for cigarettes for awhile, like coffee and soda. I didn't know what I was gonna do with my spare time, or my hands, but I just told myself that I spent quite a few years NOT smoking and managed to be fine..... Soz to hear bout your best buddy of 16 years... but fuck Mr. Nicotine and slap up his bitch Mrs. Tar, coz they're gonna leave u all mashed up! It catches up 2 every1, some sooner than others. Listen up mate, while you're exploring all the different avenues of breaking the habit, PLEASE PLEASE try and get yourself a copy of this book, "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking". Go lend it from the library, buy it or ehatever... just get hold of it... This fella is highly recommended, no shock tatics, just read his story. He himself used to be a 100 a day plus smoker, now he runs quit clinics all over the world... he aint even a psychologist , he used to be a former accountant! It can't do any harm reading that book while you're trying to quit. Give it a go bud! Shit gutted to hear your condition Gemini13. Take care & mind how you go. ditto. i've quit and it's not hard if you have the right state of mind. which is that quitting is actually *easier* than smoking because it involves ceasing an activity. also, try aromatherapy at first. carry around those little bottles of scented oils and sniff them when you have a craving. i recommend tea tree oil, ylang ylang and honeysuckle.
