Fear of Vacuum Sweepers

If I ever visit you and I've overstayed my welcome, just start vacuuming and I will leave with the quickness.

I have a horrible fear of vacuum cleaners. Not so much when *I* use one, but when other people use them around me. I get really uptight and uncomfortable, and I usually have to leave the room.

Anyone else have this problem?

hmm

Well, I don't; but my dog barks at them and runs away when it gets close. giggle

See, I can relate to cats when they freak out at the vacuum sweeper. If I could fit under a couch, I'd join 'em.

I hate it more on a level that they are working around you when you both should (could?) be relaxing. It's an uncomfortable feeling. Good thing is many people don't bust out their vacuum cleaners around me.

You have some kind of traumatic experience with vacuum cleaners, perhaps in your childhood? Mebbe your penis got stuck in it or something? biggrin

That might explain your unreasonable fear as an adult. nod

Actually, I think it comes from when I was a little kid and my mom would vacuum around me and be pissed off because she would rather I be doing the vacuuming, so she would vacuum aggressively around me and give me dirty looks.

Strangely, I have no phobias about passive-agressive behavior.

Have you given any thought to NLP healing? You know, hypnotic regression to the moment in time where your subconscious mind made the decision that other people vacuum cleaning makes you feel uncomfortable so you can undo that decision and suddenly love it when other people vacuum clean? biggrin

Just a suggestion. But really, would you rather go on living in unreasonable fear? Surely NLP healing is worth consideration seeing as how other people vacuum cleaning causes you such anxiety. wink

No, but I live in an apartment with hardwood floors and I am not afraid of my Swiffer.

As does mine. But I'm hoping to help her get over her fear by purchasing maybe 30 or 40 vacuum cleaners and leaving them all switched on for a coupla weeks or so. smile
