Ever squashed a fly walking across your computer screen and then wished you hadn't?

I have, many times unfortunately. An unsuspecting little blow fly or something wanders in front of my line of vision and BLAT, I squish it, rub my fingers, and dispose of it somewhere, but nowhere in particular.

This is starting to get me down. I remember when I was a kid how I used to help spiders out of my room, into the garden or just sit and watch them for ages doing whatever it is they do.

Do you ever kill a small bug and then feel really bad afterwards? There's definitely something wrong with it. I don't care if u're Buddhist, Christian or have no professed spiritual leanings whatsoever, there is something wrong with it and u can definitely feel it.

This thread comes in part due to reading a thread about vegetarianism and watching the 'meet your meat' video. I'm not vegetarian but something stirs inside me. Do u ever feel that the life u'd like to lead is just a little beyond u?

Here I am, it's 2:21pm in the afternoon and I'm drinking beer. I'm teaching in a few hours. I want to eat healthily and I want to stop drinking beer (I don't drink a lot by the way, only maybe 10 bottles in a week, maybe less) and smoking cigarettes (I'm not a regular smoker but every week I'll have one day with my Aussie friend where I chain smoke about 20). I'm intensely interested in Taoism and Eastern philosophy and incorporate this into my life wherever it naturally incorporates itself.

Ever wish u hadn't squished the bug?

People can feel insignificant yet through pure physics every single thing you do affects every single other thing on this earth, and beyond. A simple wave of your arm causes movements in the air which with a subtle but real snowball effect will have some significance to things happening on the other side of the world.

Do u ever wish u hadn't squished the bug? I do.

Never mind. Be good.

...ed it.

IAmTheTouch

awesome thread, faux! hug

so many of the "little" things we do that are hurtful are done not maliciously, but unconsciously. it's amazing what happens when that little light goes off in your head (or should i say in your heart).

sometimes it's the really easy things that seem hard to pull off. anybody could start this very instance to do their own part to stop unnecessary suffering. all it takes is a very gentle hand movement to suggest to the fly to move on... from there, it will all come naturally.

peace

Its funny too, when there is a fly buzzing around and someone shouts *Fuck Off* to it! lol

Do flies understand this obscene language? I think not, or they choose to ignore such vulgarities..

TheFrog

I killed a spider last night.

Normally i pick them up and put them outside, but i was too tired and couldn't be bothered.

So i squashed it with a newspaper.

Now i feel guilty. Am i a bad person? cry
