Computer people, please help: allmusic.com and IE clash

A problem has recently started.

Whenever I go to allmusic.com, I get an IE error message that I've never seen.

it's a gray box that says "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Then it gives me the option to restart internet explorer, and asks me if I want to send the error report to Microsoft. I click no, and then IE restarts on my regular start-up page.

I used to access allmusic all the time, on this computer, with this browser. I don't know what's happening. The page starts to come up as if it's going to load, but then i get this error before anything but the background shows up.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I just talked with my isp and they were telling me that there a major viruses coming through the microsoft browser (mainly through pop ups) and recommended that I download the netscape 7.1 browser, which I did and it's pretty damn good, maybe that's the solution.

I'm a computer idiot, but that might work. shrug

as bas as IE can be, i'd rather slam my dick in the laptop before using Netscape.

just make sure you apply astroglide to the keyboard before you slam it shut. smile

IE is a piece of junk. Try Mozilla Firefox, which is based on the same core browser as Netscape, but is much smaller and faster. It also renders pages more correctly than IE and won't cause you virus problems. Mozilla is even recommended by Ben as a better browser for viewing prince.org.

There is a serious flaw with IE in Windows OS that was discovered last week.. I believe even on CNN they leaked that the MS source code is floating around...

so all Windows users should run the security update ASAP

Oh I just love the way you described it! Let's summarise what's happened in MS-land in the last week or so:

1. There was a flaw discovered in IE where ppl could display a URL in your browser that's different from the site you're viewing
2. Microsoft supplied a patch that was over-kill and removed some legitimate functionality of web sites. One site that has suffered is NPGMC - try logging in the normal way with a patched IE and it doesn't work any more, hence the extra link on the front page
3. MS supplied a patch for the patch to fix this problem (I'm not sure about this)
4. MS announced that there was a patch for critical flaws in Windows that allowed ppl to hack in. It had taken them 140 days since the flaw was made known for them to issue the patch.
5. It became apparent that a huge chunk of Windows 2000 (actually Service Pack 1) source code was leaked onto the Internet. The risk is really unknown, and there is no patch for such a thing.
6. Not to forget the two or three major viruses that have cirulated in this time

Draw connections between those as you may.. using Mozilla Firefox (or the Opera browser) is one step away from these problems.
