when i realized that canned dog food is all the stuff they can't use for hot dogs, my dogs went veg!

yeah, sometimes dog food can get pretty shady but there are brands that use quality ingredients and you can always cook for your dog. I hope you asked your vet before turning your dog veg because dogs aren't really meant for a veggie diet. they do much better with fresh meat with fresh being the key word there.

of course i did some research before changing our dogs' diet, and i've found that, since they are actually omnivores, a vegetarian diet works quite well for them. both have been doing well, and our older dog in particular has less skin problems since we made the switch.

i agree that a fresh meat and veggie diet can also be quite healthy for dogs.

I am so glad to hear that. I work at a veterinary hospital and plenty of animals come in who are sick because their owners did something to the poor animal's diet. Either switched it or tried some new "fad" or gave the animal vitamins when the animal didn't need any.

I'm not surprised to hear that your older dog has fewer skin problems now that he's not eating canned food. There are so many things in canned food that cause skin allergies, it's unbelieveable. There's special dry and canned food for skin allergies but it's so expensive. you're better off feeding the dog what you eat, provided that what you eat is healthy and not the equivalent to canned dog food (e.i., MacDonalds).
