Look at what we can do in Minnesota. I typically don't like winter but the last few weeks I have been spending some time outside and I have realized that winter time (especially in Minnesota) can be pretty cool. From running in zero degree winter races with 2,000 people to hunting for $10,000 hidden in a park to marveling at what man can do with 16,000,000 pounds of ice!
Check out the cool Ice Palace that was built for the St. Paul Winter Carnival in conjuction with the NHL All Star Game. Daytime view of me and RaspberryWoman in front of the skating rink and the palace. This would be a REALLY cool picture if only I wasn't squinting into the sun so much. Some pictures I took of the palace at night. There is a pretty cool light show, but unfortunately still photography does not really show this. There were also tons of ice sculptures. This one was my favorite. I just wish that the picture would have shown the incredible detail. I even encountered an automobile race on a frozen lake. These cars were going between 80-100 MPH which was just crazy on ice. [This message was edited Sun Feb 8 11:00:05 PST 2004 by lovemachine]

that is awesome! i haven't been to a winter carnival in all the time i've lived up here but from the looks/sounds of it, it seems pretty cool. and yes, the light shows they had at night were fuckin bad-ass, the pix shown here don't do it justice. local news stations would have live shots from the ice palace on their evening newscasts sometimes when the light shows would be goin on, and that shit was hawt.

The 1992 Ice Palace was probably the coolest one but it put us way into debt so they have toned them down a bit. It was 17 stories high!
The 2004 version cost around $9,000,000 (which is a lot for a building that will be around for 3 weeks), but the work is all done volunteer style.

Thanks I was getting so cold I started running out of patience to frame everything real nice and wait for the perfect moment Plus Raspberrywoman was not pleased with how long it was taking me Also, with basically a point and shoot digital it's tough to take night time light pictures so I'm glad I got anything at all. .
