But there are 2 different brunch places in Mpls that serve the yummiest French toast that everything else pales in comparison. One is made with a nice, crusty french bread and stuffed w/Brie and is covered in syrup and bananas and pecans. YUM! The other is a regular but hearty white bread dipped in egg and coated w/cornflakes and cinnamon and suger. Sounds weird, but it's super yummy.
tell me where!!! The Brie stuffed concoction is at the downtown Pizza Luce (they have brunch on weekends) and the crunchy yummy cinnamony one is at Sunny Side Up. We'll have to go one of these weekends. It's been voted best French Toast in the Cities several times, I think. |

Hmmm...
If making it myself, then french toast... I make great french toast (waffles, too, but they're rather easy to make, aren't they??..lol)...I suck at pancakes...they turn out weird shaped and always way too dark on one side, and I can't flip 'em over without either breaking them in half or splattering the uncooked batter... I need pancake lessons... :O

49er flapjacks from the Original House of Pancakes...
mmm mmm good! They are the best, hands down... If I'm out and can't get those it's waffles... In LA or PHX it's Chiken & Waffles (yeah, I too, thought it was a strange combinatin until I tried it). I find it lonely being a loner

FILLING: 3/4 cup ricotta cheese 1 package (3 ounces) cream cheese -- at room temperature 1 teaspoon almond extract 2 tablespoons sugar 1 loaf French or Italian bread cut in 1 1/2-inch slices 8 eggs 2/3 cup half 'n half 1 tablespoons butter SAUCE: 1 package (10 ounces) Deluxe Red Raspberries thawed and drained (reserving juice) 1 /2cup sugar 2 tablespoons raspberry jam In medium bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, almond extract and sugar; stir until well blended. Make a pocket in each bread slice by cutting through center of top crust down into bread to within ¾-inch from edges, being careful not to cut through sides. Fill pocket with 1 to 2 tablespoons filling. Repeat with remaining bread slices. In medium bowl, whisk together eggs with half 'n half until well blended. Dip each side of bread into egg mixture until well coated. Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat. Place bread slices into skillet and fry both sides until golden brown and filling is warm, about 6 to 8 minutes. In medium saucepan, combine reserved raspberry juice and sugar; stir in raspberry jam. Bring raspberry mixture to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 7 to 8 minutes, allowing mixture to slightly thicken. Remove from heat and stir in raspberries. Serve warm over french toast. ...And i thought will start singing...Rasberry beret...Oh well... Here I am, you lucky people!

BabyCakes said: I thought of a food thread.. Which would you rather have for breakfast.. French Toast, Waffles or Pancakes? Or maybe none of the above??
Definitely none of the above. An piece of fruit and wholemeal sandwiches filled with fresh vegetables (tomatoes, carrot, lettuce, etc) gets me up. Either that or yesterday's pasta/rice/polenta.
