I've never been, but one time I was a suspect in a robbery.


I was walking (late at night, about 1:00 am, motorcycle broke down) in San Diego, wearing a jeans jacket and minding my own. All of a sudden, two police cars come up on me - pulling a v-shaped stop around me. I was startled.

They told me to put my hands up and to not move.

It appears there was a robbery at a taco stand and the thief and I looked simular. What's worse, the thief brandished a gun!

It was 1993... I'm a Mexican guy, I was about 27... and separated from my wife. We were separated about 3 years at this time. I was probably high or tweaking at the time, but in no way did I rob a taco stand. I showed the police my identification (actually, they took it out of my back pocket, as I was handcuffed at the time).

In my wallet was my business card issued to me by the State of California (I was an official with the DMV). I was talking to the police woman and explained to her that they had the wrong guy. She seemed pretty sympathetic to my situation and told me to wait here, they were gonna bring the guy to "I.D." me.

I waited impatiently - somewhat scared. No, very scared! What would I do if the guy fingered me? I'd be fucked.

The police car with the victim stopped about 10-15 feet from me, a bright spot-light shone on me... blurring my vision of my potential accuser and giving him full view of me.

I waited.

Then the police man in the car spoke. "He says it's not him". I exhaled. Whew...

They told me thank you, took the cuffs off and told me I shouldn't be walking around town at this hour. I told them I was on my way to my sister's house, car broke down... etc.

They left and I continued on my journey.

The next day, as I was conducting my business at the state department, I saw a police car parked in an awkward area of the Home Depot workers area next to my office. They were watching me. They sat there for about two hours... then left.

I never heard from them again.

Man too many times!!

I was taken into custody for being drunk and incapable.

Never been arrested and don't plan to be...

Never been arrested, but I have gotten tickets for evading the subway fare a few times.

I was studying in the city of London (the business bit) and as a student you go out and get drunk from time to time, I used to walk/stagger home over the bridge to Southwark where I lived I was the only person not wearing a suit.

This was quite a regular thing for me and I had been stopped by the police a couple of times before “where are you going sir? Where have you been?” Etc etc. There were always a few suits around staggering in a much more suspicious way than I, but it was always me that got the suspicious quizzing from the police. Anyway about the 5th time this happened I lost it a bit and started hassling the policeman, sitting in his little shelter by the road and asking him how he liked being harassed.

Next thing I know a police van turned up, I was bundled in the back and nicked!! I spent the night in gaol I was released the next day went back to work.

My proudest moment.

Yeah, twice. Once for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, during the '92 footie championships here, I stepped out of the theatre and they'd herded all the hooligans into that street. Ended up with my chest in the pavement...

Oops, make that 3. 2 for being in anti-racist demonstrations. I kicked a policeman on the shin for batoning (is that a word??) me to get me to move back with 200 ppl behind me

I came close to getting arrested once..for trespassing..

i was never arrested but i was investigated by police once about 4 years ago. it was very strange.
