As was said, has it really affected your REAL life?

Well, I took a look at the stuff over on the forum where IceNine, Teller and others were posting and it seems something of nothing.

Geez, I'm not even going to get into whether I think it's wrong or not and why should I have to make a judgment on it anyway?

If u don't like it then u do have the choice to not go there and u can just stop being their friend. big grin

Has it really affected your real life, the one u live outside of the org, the most important one?

Come on people, there are always going to be people u just can't get on with, who'll say things u don't agree with. Do we have to have all the mass-hysteria and the witch hunts and all that pish that seems to go with sites like these? There's a definite herd mentality that comes into play?

I haven't even stopped to consider whether I 'agree' or 'disagree' with the things said on that site, and to be honest those words seem a little meaningless when what we're talking about is some venting of feelings and a little baiting and sniggering. There's enough crap on this site anyway, it just isn't usually so overt and blatant. Of course, there's a lot of great stuff posted here too, this being the reason people like to come here.

I just think it has all been blown out of proportion.

U'll live.

well, while i love the idea of this shitstorm passing soon, you are kind of denying people their right to feel hurt with this thread. since we are talking about comments that include a few orgers being dragged to their death by vehicles, i think there are some people that deserve to not have their feelings invalidated for a bit.

good idea, not a great way to go about it.

Yeah, but to some extent I can understand the notion that some here are too easily offended, although of course this idea is mainly the excuse offered up when someone is confronted with their own vindictive words about other orgers. Call it parody, irony, mocking dark humour or whatever, it can be whatever in hindsight that u say it is. It certainly doesn't change the offense taken to it when it's read for the first time.

BUT, I don't think anybody here on the org should be so weak as to let this knock them back more than a stride. There are too many cool people here to talk to surely to let that happen. It shouldn't even be a blip. Offensive maybe, but hardly debilitating. I just think it shouldn't be such a big thing.

I'm personally not offended by anything that was written on that forum. To me it was just reactionary and I still have some respect for some of the people involved. I think most of the anger was actually directed at the site itself and the way it's moderated. Perspective is what's needed, to take a balanced view of what happened and why. Some people are just really pissed off with things that have happened here and which continue to happen. They've vented their feelings about issues and particular people and not everyone will appreciate those feelings but those feelings are valid.

The racist/homophobic etc. finger-pointing doesn't do any good. Anyone with a little sharpness knows the idea is to push the limits and provoke a response and ultimately it was hoped that the site would be "discovered".

I dunno. I'm tired.

well, i agree with you to a degree. there are a lot of orgers who are being called racists and homophobes who shouldn't be as proof seems to indicate that they didn't even know of the really offensive posts.

but telling people to what degree they should be offended isn't a good idea. wink

What pisses me off is defending the Org to other sites and having this bullshit happen. Yes, it affects my real life especially knowing that there are human beings in the world who think like that. It affects me because I'm black. It affects me because the majority of my Org friends, people whom I know in my real life, are gay. Should it affect me so much? Fuck, probably not but I gave up a long time ago worrying about what most folks on the Org think of me.

Ur right about that last point. I only came back from Malaysia today so to be honest I've only seen the aftermath, but I've approached this the way I always would, by attempting to avoid a knee-jerk reaction.

Certainly the whole thing is a shame, if nothing else, since it hasn't left anyone looking too impressive and generally seems to have been a needless episode in general. Such is the net.
