please don't make this another quaidbowl versus org thing, but it is black history month! woot!

it might sound lame, but i realized it yesterday while i was at the bookstore. they had a display set up and i picked up toni morrison's beloved" and alice walker's "the color purple" neither of which i had read before. i also picked up another copy of "i know why the caged bird sings" cause i gave mine away. (i give a lot of my books away)

i started "the color purple" last ngiht, and it is some really intense writing, i highly recommend it to everyone.

what are you doing to celebrate?

(and PLEASE keep this thread from being a flame war about racism - thank you)
The Color Purple is one of my top 10 favourite books EVER! I just love the story and characters. It is so simply written, but so beautiful and meaningful. Alice Walker is one of the best writers and one of my favs (I'm a white gal too lol)

i love it so far, and definately think she is a tremendous author, and one i am going to read more of her stuff once i finish this. i particularly love the letter to god format it is written in, whichnormally annoys me, but works here somehow. and the way that the husband, is "Mr. ___" is a really bizzare but intriguing way of doing it.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the book. I've read all of AW's work and I love her. I wish she would write more! I also love "Their eyes were watching God" but Zora Neale Hurston. Great book!!
