I Just Saw The Movie "Monster" starring Charleze Theron and i wondered why i feel sympathy for a coldblooded killer. Can a persons life be so fucked up from the start that you can justify evil acts?

It's not so much justify as understand.
I saw that movie too, and it (pardon the pun) blew me away. I know everyone's saying it to death, but if Theron doesn't get an Oscar for that movie, there's gonna be something seriously wrong. | |

She completely tranformed. I didn't reconize her. I think there was one scene for a second where i could tell it was her, but 99% of the time it could have been the actual woman who commited the crimes(theron played it that well). Yeah, I hear she really nailed that part and is odds on for the Oscar. It hasn't opened in Australia yet.  When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. | |

I don't really think of Monster the way I do about other movies about killers and other criminals...it's not really a suspense movie or a flick that's gory and violent just for the sake of being provocative. It's very emotionally generous in that it wants the audience to understand how a person like Aileen Wuornos could possibly exist, and it does a really good job of making you empathize with her without necessarily excusing her actions. It's just a really amazing character portrait, and it changed my whole perception of Charlize Theron from ditzy blonde bimbo to acting genius. I'm really looking forward to whatever she does next. | |
