Designing Websites for dummies. I know some of you guys have your own websites and I need your help. My employer wants me to design our website. He doesn't have a clue and neither do I. Nanners suggested that I take an online course on HTML, which I am doing but would it be better to let someone else do it? Who do you guys use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What will the site be used for?...Commerce, providing info only, entertainment??..If you've never designed one and neither has your boss, I'd suggest hiring a freelance designer (there are tons out there, trust me..lol)...If your boss is just dead set against using a professional designer, there are hosting sites which provide basic design templates you can use to create the most fundamental sites...and you won't need to know html..lol
Do some research if that's an option for ya.

If it's just a simple website then you can use Word.
Just open a document, put whatever you need into it and save as html page. You can also view the html code created (on the view toolbar I think), although I wouldn't recommend following the html code that word creates as a way of learning html coding (cos it puts tons of unnecessary and confusing crap into it). There are online html and java tutorial sites around (sorry I don't have any web links, a search should find them no problem though). If it's a more complex business website that will require fancy stuff like flash or secure forms then you will need proper web design software and probably some professional training. The only decent web design tool I'm aware of is Dreamweaver, and I'm told it's the best (haven't actually used it myself). Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Thanks, Byron. I'm in middle of researching this now. They are always dropping projects like this on me. This is going to be used for commerce, BTW. I would rather hire someone to design it, personally. Re: the hosting sites, do you recommend any?Do some research if that's an option for ya.

Thanks. It can be as simple as saving a Word doc as html? That I understand!Just open a document, put whatever you need into it and save as html page. Then pick up a copy of Dreamweaver and a good paint program, to tweak it out.

They do talk a little about eCommerce but nothing too detailed. Might be a good place to start if you're really serious.

See the thing is its for your employer. So its going to have to look and operate on a professional level.I really think frontpage is your best bet.Spend the $175 and avoid a possibility of a major headache.
