Neversin. he did get a nomination for it, and IMHO, he should have won for it. michael caine won the award for "ciderhouse rules" over him. i like michael caine, but it was the same character he's always done, just in a better script, where you had cruise doing something totally different, and totally incredible. his acting is too surface for my taste...even in magnolia..it was all show...which as we all know is easy as fuck..give me samantha morton's subtelty anyday... hye does tend to play surface alot, but that was what him so incredible in magnolia. the surface acting was covering the subtle true identity of the character. two levels is difficult to pull off, he did it well in that one. The Oscar Gods seem to have no regard for this man's talent.
