So, (for those who don't know) I work for the Minnesota AIDS Project. Every year we do an annual gala fundraiser, "Hollywood" during which the Oscars are broadcast in a big theater, entertainment is provided and food and liqour are plentiful. (I believe this is done in many states). Of course all proceeds of the show go to MAP and a few other area non-profits.

Anyways, I'm part of the planning comittee for this year's event. So, tomorrow morning, I'm gonna be hanging out at a downtown MPLS Starbucks with a coworker, broadcasting the nominations and trying to get the word-out/sell tickets to our event! Whee!

I've always been a huge fan of Oscar nite and this year I have an extra reason to be excited!

Maybe I'd bite the bullet and go for a benefit like this. I wonder if Cleveland has such a function.

The Oscars are a big event my way, too. I'd love to have a full-blown party, but my friends and family don't get into it like I do.

I have some acquaintances who do that.. They get dolled up in tuxedos, and evening wear...

They have alot of fun.

There are one or two formal Oscar events like that here in Cleveland. Part of me would enjoy all the pomp and circumstance, but I'm sort of assuming the people would be snobs.

pardon if i'm being rude, but what would anyone in Cleveland have a reason to be a snob about? boxed

you know, i and a whole flock of my friends ( who also live in europe) are from there too, and i was just wondering the same darned thing!in the suburban areas the citizens are well heeled, monetarily speaking, but REALLY now...

at any rate, where are some of the venues that they're holding these parties, hon? that would give me a clearer
idea of what you would be dealing with if you went to one of those things. overall, i would say go on and have a good time, and if you detect the slighest iota of snobbery coming from one of them- SEND THEM TO HELL! old Reese is behind ya 100%!

... cleveland snobbery...and from people who see the word mâche on a menu and get it confused with a kindergarten art project...the NERVE!

i can't freaking wait... the oscars are my superbowl

mine too!
can somebody, btw, give suggestions as to what i should see from the nominations list because we get all of the movies pretty late here in europe, and i don't get enough press or hype to get a good feeling of what i should see. even for movies that don't make it to the (english speaking) theatres, the nominated usually make it to dvd sales or rentals, and i like hearing opinions on these performances before i rent or buy them- thanxxx!

Here are my predictions for who will be nominated

Lost in Translation
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Seabiscuit
Mystic River
Cold Mountain

I think Master and Commander could sneak in over Cold Mountain.

Sean Penn will win Best Actor over Bill Murray, and Charlize Theron will win Best Actress for Monster.

Peter Jackson will finally win Best Director and Lord of the Rings will win Best Picture.

Also - I wouldn't be shocked if Johnny Depp was nominated for Pirates of the Carribbean, he's been getting alot of buzz about that performance which really was very good. I think alot of it is a way to reward Depp who is now consistently one of the best and most interesting actors around.
