You crazy horse, you. Yeah, Soul Train was the shizzle back in it's heyday. It was the American Bandstand for us Black folks, and it was also on at Saturday mornings. But now that most of the R&B and Hip-Hop is dead to me, I don't really watch it anymore. But in the 70's and 80's that was the show to watch.

Don was one of the best hosts too.

I liked watching Soul Train, but it also made me sad too. I knew when it came on that it was the end of Saturday morning, my favorite TV-watching time sad

I grew up watching the show too! I've mentioned this on the non-Prince board more than once! I loved the dancers. I wrote to my favorite, Leonard Allen Jones, and he wrote back! I Met Tyrone (The Bone) Proctor in the 80s. I think it must've blown his mind that I recognized him from the show. We became friends. I remember watching Jodi Watley, Jeffrey Daniels, Fred (Rerun) Berry, Rosie Perez dance on the show. Rosie always stood out. Homegirl could dance, and she had a figure to die for. Biotch! wink

And remember how couples danced down the ST Line?

hmmm You know, I wish I had some archival tapes of episodes from the 80's. That was back when Disco was dead, the Funk got glossy & synthesized and this talented family from Gary, Indiana's star had not shined any brighter.

But yeah, I know they're still bootlegging the 70's tapes, but what about the 80's stuff? Is any of that stuff around on the black market?

...Oh, man, I'm gonna get in so much trouble for this. boxed

Also, you know in the 80's, New Wave was crossing over. You had guys like Tears for fears, Tom Tom Club, and Pet Shop Boys making guest appearances. Man, I would love to get my hands on some of these 80's episodes.

Actually, I'm reading the list again, and I'm seeing acts like ABC, A-ha, Berlin, Culture Club, etc. You won't see acts like that anymore today. Not on Soul Train, at least.

nod Milty knows his Soul Train history..lol

In 1973,a Detroit disc jockey began playing Elton's song "Bennie And The Jets" on an R&B station.Even though the song isn't really R&B or funk,it became a huge hit on black radio. In 1974,Elton became the first White artist to appear on 'Soul Train'.He performed this song.

In 1976,David Bowie appeared on the show as well.

And he was very drunk and couldn't lip synch his own songs anymore.
It is still good fun to look at though.

They're mostly of the performances, right? I would love to watch the entire hour. Oh, and I've got to get my hands on the Dynamic Superiors episode just for grins. biggrin I'd love to see the Grace Jones one again, too.

Gotta check out that link, already. Thanks again for posting it. thumbs up!

Yeah, they're mostly performances and that's the only bad thing about these videos.I want to see the ENTIRE episodes (the scramble board, people dancing as songs are being played, etc). But several of these videos actually show the line dancing. You just GOTTA see the line-dancing they do during Rufus and Chaka's "Once You Get Started"!

The Dynamic Superior performance is funny lol

the lead singer was doing the "androgyny thing" long before Prince,MJ and Boy George got hip to it...lol...
