If this is true, I HOPE it takes a darker turn. Army of Darkness was fun, but I don't go to a horror movie to laugh.

I feel the same way. I loved the first one and really liked the second, but all the comedy crap fucked up Army of Darkness. It would be cool if another sequel were to arrive, but I think they should keep it low budget and non-comical.

Did anyone go see Bubba Ho-Tep? It was with Bruce Campbell and he played the "real" Elvis. Elvis was elderly and living in a nursing home with a black man who thought he was John F. Kennedy. They battled the forces of evil from the nursing home. It had rave reviews and I wanted to see it with a passion. I had tickets to the premier but missed it for some reason. It should be coming to DVD pretty soon.

I can't wait for ED4. That would rule! And I can't believe you guys didn't like Army of Darkness. It is classic! The humor is what makes it great!

I missed it too. It was on as part of a zombie movie all-nighter at last year's Leeds film festival but I was too slow buying tickets and it had sold out completely by the time I had cash.

No way man. See, the series started out great cuz it was a real horror film. Sure it was very low budget, but there was nothing humerous about it. Part 2 had a few jokes in it but they didn't over do it. Then Army of Darkness was just a mess. The series suffered the same fate as Elm Street. It started out serious and then became a big joke. I hate when that happens.

I really like Army of darkness but I agree that it lost it's way from what Evil Dead is about. Evil dead is about a guy who alone in a house of possesed people. 1 and 2 are the best. (I think 2 was better was better than 1).

If they do make 4 I reckon it should all be done in the one place but not a cabin. Maybe in a church or a castle or something.

It's still showing around where I live. I haven't seen it yet, but I want to. The combination of Elvis, a mummy, and a serious actor like Ossie Davis thinking he's JFK is just hilarious!

oh come on. ED 1 was clearly comic. even the gore was comical, not truly intended to be scary. there are TONS of hilarious one-liners in the dialogue. and the scene where he's forced to cut up his girlfriend, obviously a spoof on the usual formula where the guy saves his chick from the evil monster...

and ED 2. another joke! he GOES BACK TO THE CREEPY, POSSESSED HOUSE where all his friends died. for no good reason. HAS to be a joke from the get go. it's a precursor to 'scream'

No, Evildead 2 was a remake of 1. In evil dead 2 the first film had never happened. But your right. They are both very funny.

I don't think it was meant to be comical, just excessivly bloody and bizarre.

Part 2 was just a continuation of 1. He still couldn't get out of the forest.

Yes, the first two were clearly meant to be humourous. nod

They were both, even more so the second, utterly ridiculous and bizarre.

I agree there was supposed to be a touch of humor in ED 1 and 2 -- remember the ballet dancing cadaver? lol

But with ARMY OF DARKNESS' endless succsession of stupid one-liners and phyisal stunts, an idiot like Jim Carey would have fit perfectly in the third film. It cancels out the fear of the story, and all you have left are cheap shock and gore elements. I'm with EWM on this one.
