When you buy a DVD…

…do any of you ever watch them with the commentaries on.

Last night I watched Evil dead 1, 2 and 3 all with the commentary on. I didn’t get to bed until 5am. (It was pretty cool though.) wink

I really appreciate having a DVD player and just DVDs in general really. Besides the enhanced sound and picture quality, the extras offer a different perspective to the film and have sought to strengthen my interest in it. Gangs of New York, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Donnie Darko are 3 DVDs which I have that are really worth the purchase for the extras.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I bought that DVD a couple of days ago. Great stuff, but they could of done something with the deleted scenes. (Like put some sound on the fuckers!)

The DVDs of the LOTR both have 4 audio commentaries as well. Actors, director/writers, art people and production team.
Very very cool, you really get an idea of what a massive undertaking making a movie can be.

Maybe not on the first viewing, but I ALWAYS watch my DVDs with the commentaries on. I've done a few allnighters, myself.

I've seen 25th HOUR and X2 like a billion times, because the commentaries by the producers, writers, directors, etc. are all separate.

I am a Commentary Whore!

For fun I rent DVD's of movies I've already seen/own on VHS just for the commentary and other extras!

It gives you a whole new perspective! It can be dissapointing to hear certain things about your all time favorite flicks..

EXAMPLE:

STEEL MAGNOLIAS: I was so bummed to find out that 'Truvy's Salon' (Dolly Parton's character's salon) was actually a set built inside a sports arena because the weather in Louisiana was horribly humid and hot. I was crushed!

I was hoping to one day visit Truvy's and get my hair done! LOL...a boy can dream...
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Naah, who's got the time to sit through an entire movie to hear someone comment it throughout? Just finding the time to watch the actual movie can be a problem for me. I've got plenty DVD's with commentary that I've yet to hear. I ain't even heard the ones for the Star Wars movies yet. biggrin
