That would be "1900"

Classic...1900 maybe long 4.5 hours worth of an amazing epic poeticly put down by another amazing director Bernardo Bertolucci an an allegory of Italian history The story is both complex and rich with detail and the characters are superbly drawn. 1900(1976) does a good job in taking a narrative look at the first fifty years of the 20th Century. The film begins during the period of a new age. The film follows the early rise of the Socialist Party in Northern Italy. It describes the struggle between landowners and socialist supporters. This movie also is good at showing the rise and fall of the landowning class. 1900(1976) contains a scene which describes how the Fascist Party came into being in Italy. The landowners are the ones who planted the seeds of fascism and helped it grow to almost all powerful proportions. The film begins with birth, progresses through life, and ends in death. Starring Robert DeNiro and Gerard Depardieu...Another remarkable thing about this movie is the cinematography is wonderful, and colorful. If you get the chance to see it, go for it.

I have seen "28 days later" and it was an interesting mixture of "The Night of the Living Dead" , "12 Monkies" and "The Day After" (1983)...I liked the extra stuff on the DVD especially the documentary about viruses...very scary stuff...

great to see other Almodovar fans here!! He is one of my very favourite directors...I always thought his films had such an idiosyncratic spanish humor that foreign audiences would find it hard to get it, but I am glad that is not the case...

last film I rented was some spanish film that I liked very much , but surely most of you will never have the chance to see it , so I won´t ever bother mentioning it

Well, I rarely rent movies anymore, as I'm constantly finding DVDs so cheap. The last one I bought was Waking Life. Truly strange film, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I liked this movie, but it wasn't the end-all, be-all of horror films. I don't really even agree that it fits in the Zombie subgenre. They weren't undead creatures, they had a disease that was basically a super-rabies. Sure, they were mindless, but if that's the qualification Crossroads is a zombie film!

Identity was good...

However beyond that rental.. i think for the last 10-12 rentals of new movies that came out, we were very dissapointed in all of them!

The title of this thread asks what GREAT movie. I can't say that I've seen a truly great movie in a very long time. I've seen good and above average movies, but great???...hmmm.

Y tu mama tambien was excellent. I loved this movie, but wouldn't say it was great. I also liked the Pianist and The Hours very much, but again, neither were great! IMO - the last great movie was Pulp Fiction!

I agree 100%

Then I feel like I have to defend my Zombie statement with the following items

1) They puked bood into people's faces (sofa king cool)
2) They ran which was way cooler than the "Zombie shuffle" of the past
