Which is what makes it perfect for the org. No, seriously. You could pidgeonhole Lewis Carrols work the same way or "The Hobbit" or "Harry Potter". However, in the BBC's recent 'Big Read' poll it, well see for yourself (It's the first book of the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy):- http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts...p100.shtml That's what got to me to read it, because I'd read nearly everything else on the list. It has the highest rated book I hadn't read. Also, I'd heard that it had been adapted for Radio recently by the BBC's prestigous Radio 4 and for the theatre at the Royal National - London's finest theatre. I actualy picked it because I thought that a lot of people would already have read it? I think the idea though is to pick a book that no one has read before, no?

If we're gonna read anything it will be
"The Coming Of Joachim Stiller" by Hubert Lampo Seriously though, it's not one of those monolythical sized books and it's very entertaining. The story is one of 'magic-realism' It's about a reporter living in Antwerp who's one day drawn into the web of Joachim Stiller -a messiah like figure- and strange hallucinatory situations. I never thought too highly of Dutch/Belgium literature. Until I read this one though. Simply wonderful. Read it from cover to cover in a single breath. But hey, I was only joking when I said we HAD to read it lol. Just consider it something to consider heheh. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Hey, you know Coetzee went on to win the Nobel Prize for literature this past time. It's all because of the buzz generated by the Org Book Club!

I like the Nazer book, but it's only in hardback and might be expensive for some to buy.
What do people think? | |
