BIG FISH! went and saw this sunday, and thought i would be kinda dissapointed by it, as i have been in tim burton's post ed wood movies, but it was EXCELLENT!

I was prepared to really like this movie
instead I was very unimpressed by it...it bored me to the point that I got up and left the theater for 10 minutes the ending got me, but I thought it was too long and I didn't like the father in the film, I didn't feel sympathy for him, I didn't feel he deserved the 'redemption' with the son that he got at the end... I read that in the original book, the father actually was an adulterer, perhaps that would've helped the film and made me believe the father character more In the end all, eh..it was alright, but if it wasn't for Billy Cudrup and Ewan's cute faces, I prolly wouldn't have made it through this film seems to really divide people, though, I'm just on the "didn't like" side of the fence... | |

I was able 2 check this out over the weekend and enjoyed it 4 the story that it was...Didn't read the book so I can't compare. On it's own, it's a nice tale and better than alot of other movies out there...Aloha~ | |

I also thought it was slouching toward Forrest Gumpish, but I was generally satisfied. It probably doesn't deserve massive praise, but it was a quaint, little family ties piece.
And considering the entire movie hinged on the capacity to tell massive lies, it was strangely one of Tim Burton's most subtle movies. I kinda liked that, actually. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

to be honest, i think it is a great movie, but not phenominal. sadly, this has been kinda a shit year, and it's probably would be a stronger canidate for best picture than most of the crap i have seen this year.
i really wish lost in translation would win best pic, it really deserves to, but i will be suprised if it even gets nominated. Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton | |

 I saw "Lost in Translation" and "Big Fish" on the same day. Sophia Coppola dug deep with this one! It's so perfectly introspective, yet smartly avoids the theatrical fallacies of answering life's questions, romanticizing new love, sloughing off futility and neatly packaging everything with a happy ending.
Bill Murray is one of the most realistic actors I've ever seen, and it'd be so cool if he were recognized -- at least with a nomination. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Yes. I didn't leave the theater brimming with joy - its kinda sad. Not that the ending was any surprise but it still was sad. Frankly I thought the son was a jerk. My father was away most of my childhood & he has a tendency to tell stories which I know stray from the truth but I don't hate him for it or hold it against him. Yeah yeah I know its a movie & you have to have the character make a progession & personal growth but it didn't embrace me. | |
