GO GIRLS!!! woot!

SORRY SORRY!!!

but the lesbians I know do not look like that!!

what an unrelistic show this must be.

lol I know some gorgeous lipstick types.

But to clarify, Pam Grier's character is straight, and the brunette being hugged by the guy is cast as "straight," but the suggestion is that she's curious about women.

She had sex with a woman in the first episode. Her curiosity is over

If you didn't catch the premier of Showtime's new show about Lesbian life in L.A., make plans to catch a rerun.

The writing is pretty good, the acting is heads and shoulder's above Queer as Folk's, and the balanced portrayal of a cross section of the Lesbian community is welcomed and refreshing. Needs some work: like some butch representation and some "ethnic" Lesbian representation, but altogether, this one is a definite victory for LGBT visibility and positivity, it seems!!! QAF had damned well better shape up or suffer getting dwarfed.

...Makes a brotha proud! nod

So... Jennifer Beals isn't "ethnic" enough for you? They covered the issue of having a black baby in the first episode

Sure she is. I just get tired of seeing one lone token in ensemble show. I can only imagine that along with fat, ugly lesbians and ones that altogether just fade into the background, there's got to be more than just one biracial Lesbian in all of L.A.

And the only fully non-white character, Pam Grier, is an alcoholic who thwarts legal trouble.

Still, I'll let that stuff slide. It'll be interesting to see where they take it.

btw, Pam's character is not gay
confuse Maybe because I only hang out with the pretty lipstick lesbians, I didn't see a problem with the show. Shane was pretty butch though, no? lol

I thought Shane was kinda butch too. But I guess anything less than Evander Hollyfield isn't satisfactory to some viewers. shrug

Yeah, I only meant they cast her as not identifying as Lesbian.

Okay, so now finally there's gay shows with males and females. What's the next step in TV entertainment?

There was a woman from the ghetto
Who made funny faces just like
Clara Bow, how was I 2 know
That she would wear the same
Cologne as U and giggle the same
Giggle that U do?
Whenever I would act a fool, the fool
With a condition of the heart

I have a few close friends that are ~so called~ lipstick lesbians, and they fit the picture above perfectly. Queer as Folk is a work of art series so I will definately give this one a go.

U Go Girls...

lol Shane is butch enough as far as I'm concerned. She's the female version of Brian Kinney

I don't get it. I think it's wrong to have lesbians portrayed as butch and man-looking anyway. I know they exist, but that would just perpetuate negative attitudes about gays. Someone would say "Look, she wants to be a man." The lipstick ones are never fully represented anyway

This show is much better than QAF. QAF doesn't even have black people!

i haven't seen the show but i saw the promos for it and, though i almost hate to say it, it seems rather phony. i mean, half of my friends in philly back in the day were lesbians and none of them looked like that. they are a straight man's wet dream...hell, they're a straight man's busted waterbed! it looks like a very hollywood version of the lesbian community. i'm not knocking the acting...that seemed to be ok from the ads. i just don't know how i feel about that representation of dykes. i guess breaking stereotypes is a good thing, though. i'll eventually check it out.
