I have three:

Like Chris, the first are my photos. They fill in the gaps in my memory, particularly the ones of those who are no longer with me. I don't live in the past, but I do like flicking through them perhaps once a year and remembering events and people that were special to me.

My second is a painting my grandmother painted for my grandfather. He loved it and so do I. I would be heartbroken if I damaged or lost it. It doesn't have any intrinsic value, but it's very special to me.

The third is another piece of art, a pen and ink drawing that was made by a friend as a gift and is of a personal nature. It's beautiful and I'm thankful I own it.

I could live without any of these items, but I would feel their loss.

nod sentimental rather than material

Me neither. And I got A LOT of stuff that I like A LOT, but nothing I couldn't live without. Prince music, perhaps.

hmmm ... so there's nothing you'd miss if you didn't have it? ... why do you have any possessions then? ... not trying to be glib, but I don't understand the motivation for buying anything unless it's functional in that case ...

Nope nothing that I can think of.

I never was a materialistic person... When I bought my home 20 years ago I realized I needed items to function in my home.. So I have functional items. Like furniture, bed, things like that..

nod I can understand that ... how about gifts from people though? Say if a child paints a picture for you - isn't that something to be treasured, even though it's material?

And those of you who named people... sweet, but let me point out that people should not be possessions. People should only be possessed... like Linda Blair in The Exorcist.

awww sad ... my two are still with me but the 20 year old is very near the end now ... I don't know how I'm gonna cope when he goes.

Uzie's very lucky, to have an owner who loves dogs so much.

I'm an animal lover too ... I just adore doggies though - they're so loyal and they give unconditional love, whether you deserve it or not ... I think dogs have really beautiful souls

U'll do fine, and e-mail me if u need to talk about it, any time. hug

Thank you ... we were going to put him down last Monday but he got better and I'm glad I didn't ... such a tough decision - I cried all weekend. I know I'm gonna be really upset when I do it but I hope, like you, that I will just be certain that it's the right time.

I will check out the pix .. thanks biggrin

Yes, they are to be treasured... And I have those locked away in a treasure chest for her, when she gets older, or I die.
