I always rooted for Sylvester as well, but I do have to say that Tweety truly defines him. Just think about all the NON Tweety related Sylvester cartoons, THEY ALL SUCK!!! Like all those retarded ones where he and his son are chasing the kangaroo that they mistake for a giant mouse 
The only ones without Tweety that are even remotely interesting are the ones where he (bizzarely enough) belongs to Porky Pig, and sees the mice plotting Porky's death. Those are pretty damned funny, but they are the exception, not the rule. Most of the times the cartoons suck without the Sylvester/Tweety rivalry.
