Are You Tired of CGI Yet?

With all the blockbuster movies coming out with special effects that no longer require the need for human involvement, has the movie industry lost it's classic touch?

Remember...

Jaws?
E.T. (before the edits)?
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Indiana Jones I, II, and III?
Edward Scissorhands?
Batman?
Superman?
Any Jackie Chan Film?

and oh so many more... these were done before computer enhanced graphics known as CGI.

Can you name other films that were superior visually because of the special effects that weren't CGI?

Anxiety

CGI is gonna look really dated and cheesy in the long run. Some of the subtle background "movie magic" stuff is okay, but when they go making CGI characters, you just know you're looking at something your kids are gonna be laughing at in 20 years (if not sooner).

CGI's getting better year on year.Gollum by WETA was a major advancement on what has been done previously.Lookout for ILM responding by raising the bar next year in Episode III.

CGI is way overused. When done well it is stunning. When overused, it is obvious.

even the best CGI looks "pasted on" to me every time i see it.

You could spot practically every CGI moment in the revised version of ET, because it stands out like an eyesore.

Yeah the CGI made the ET costume/puppet look crap, especially when they both shared a scene.I liked how they made him 'run' at the beginning of the movie though.

I read in the newspaper yesterday that Disney is laying off hundreds of old school animators due to the popular computer generated stuff (pixar). Sad really!

Pure masterpiece of animation...some of those segments still take my breath away...and to think they did it all by hand...amazing, and simply beautiful. nod
