Living in NYC?

I'm thinking of moving to NYC in August and I was just wondering if some of the orgers who live in and around NYC could tell me where some of the best/affordable places to live are? I already have a good amount of friends in the city but most of them are still living at home. Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! biggrin

Harlem. It's where I used to live. That is, if you're a fan of the 'hood. It is changing though. Pres. Clinton kicks it up there. Try Williamsburg or the Lower East Side too.

Seriously check out Craig's List. You can put in exactly what you're looking for and come up with something good.

Living in Brooklyn is like living in the city, especially if you live near the subway, but much more affordable!

I've ben looking at craigslist but I'm not sure how soon I should contact people. Most of the apartments are available rigt now and I want to move in August. Should I contact people now or should I wait until June or so? I just don't want to end up living in a box! wink

Anxiety

If you move to NYC, you are going to experience living in a box. But it won't matter, because you will be in NYC. If and when you move there, just be prepared to be VERY, VERY flexible for a while, until you settle down wherever it is you settle down. Nobody can tell you what part of the city you're going to like - you're just going to have to scope it all out yourself and go with what vibes best for you.

j/k Keep checking Craig's list for now. You have plenty of time. I'm not sure how seasonal these things are.

I live in NYC... Best places to live is Manhattan cause you have EVERYTHING at your fingertips... but expensive as hell.. I live her now but am moving in a few months to Queens..

It all depends how close you need to be to Manhattan. The closer you are, the more expensive. I would suggest far uptown Manhattan or North-western Bronx (because I know the areas best). You'll get a nice and spacious one bedroom in a nice neighborhood for about $800 if you shop around.
