Buffy Scribe/Creator Joss Whedon to do New X-Men Comic?

Got this off of Aint It Cool. Personally, I'd love to see this happen, since I'm a huge fan of Buffy (Whedon is an obvious X Fan, since he frequently paid homage to them on Buffy & Angel. Many of the storylines were heavily inspired by the first Claremont run).

Whedon To Write NEW X-MEN??
I am – Hercules!!

No, no, no.
The question isn’t whether “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”-“Angel”-“Firefly” mastermind Joss Whedon is writing the next “X-Men” movie.* (Think, stupid! Harry doesn’t let us write about movies in Coaxial News until they’re out on DVD!)
*Do we need to point out here that the Whedon already did an uncredited polish on the first “X-Men” movie? Didn’t think so!
The question is whether Whedon will be taking over writing duties on what is already one of Herc’s all-time favorite comic books, ”New X-Men”.
According to comicbookresources.com, that’s what’s happening.
No one I’ve contacted has denied this is happening.
Whedon is no stranger to the comic book. He’s written “Fray” and “Angel” and “Tales of the Slayers” and “Tales of the Vampires.” But if it’s true (and I believe it’s true), this will be the first time Whedon will write a comic series set outside the Buffiverse.

old news from several months ago, that seems true, but STILL hasn't been confirmed by Marvel.

also, i've heard that even if he's doing it, it'll be a full year of fill-ins between Morrison's last issue and his first. sad to think that Chuck Austen may have the book in his grubby paws for a full 12 months makes me want to vomit.

Agreed. Although there are rumours that Claremont is going to be doing it for a short stint barf Claremont used to be so great, now he's just a pale shadow of his former self.

I'm really dreading when Claremont & Byrne start doing JLA. To see two former greats churning out crap like they have lately is just sad. I wish they'd both have the sense to just retire already!

Claremont was really bad on his 2000 run on the core books, but that was mostly due to editorial interference, plus him trying to re-establish his groove and not being able to. he's been pretty good on X-treme, and in the last year or so, even approaching great. give him another try. but anyway, he's not doing the New fill-ins... he and Alan Davis are doing a run on Uncanny.

as for the CC/JB run on JLA, i'm not really interested. i can't get past what a douchebag Byrne is to work up any interest or investment in his output. not even for a Claremont project.

Plus, the fact that Byrne has sucked ass for so many years. What was the last decent thing he did, the Man Of Steel mini? All the people who are excited about this don't realise that they won't be getting classic FF/X-Men Byrne, they'll be getting Spider-Man Chapter One Byrne!
