Anyone practice Yoga?

I'm taking my first yoga class tonight and I am curious as to what the good people of Prince.org think of Yoga. I am hoping it will improve my flexibility.

I have a strength program (weights) and I run millions upon millions of miles (cardio), but my flexibility has never been the best so I thought I would give this a try. I have heard that flexibility training is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle into the golden years so I figure I better get cracking.

Has anyone taken a yoga class? What should I expect?

I must say that I am pretty excited big grin

Yes, and yes.

It is also great for the spirit. Enjoy, and don't get frustrated at your first attempt. It is not as easy as one thinks.

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

I am also stronger into cardio and weight training. I am considering Pilates. Let me know how you like Yoga.

I do but not as regularly as I should. A friend is going to bring me to her Berkham class (uses intense heat to do yoga in) and I can't wait.

It leaves me really relaxed (and sometimes sore) and it is so good for your joints.

My only issue is that because I'm a male that never stops thinking about sex, it's hard to be in a class with a bunch of women who are bending themselves in half and then try to "clear your mind"

lol

Enjoy it, I know you will.

It's great!
Mainly it's the usual exersices done not on a ritme, but on your breathing. With every breath you bend further or stretch more. Your breathing will also improve and you will be able to relax a lot easier after exercise (sorry 'bout my bad spelling, hope it makes sence).
Usualy there is a long relaxing exercise at the end. That will make U very sleepy and feel great.
Have fun! Ps don't think it's easy, it can be realy hard and even a little painful, but great! thumbs up!

Yep! I love it, and I try to do it for about 20 minutes every day. It's great. There was a topic on yoga in here not too long ago. I'll try to find it for you.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

Well I just returned from my first class and it was very interesting and kind of fun.

First things first. My girlfriend was pretty much the only attractive women there and as most of the ladies were quite frumpy I was pretty easily able to concentrate on the instuctions.

I knew going in that my hamstrings are tight but I now realize that my hipflexors are also very tight and they actually really hurt right now.

I have been experiencing some leg problems (IT Band, and some tendinitis) so I'm curious as to whether increased flexibility in my hips and hamstrings will help my running.

The best part of the class was the 15 minutes we spent relaxing at the end big grin
