A Warm Gift For Everyone, Everywhere...

Take some time, if you can, to truly consider charities this upcoming year...some of my favorites:

[color=blue:f603f6fd44:20c94eb648]www.feedingchildrenbetter.org...The link to this organization is down right now sad...but you can go here and read about this charity which works with ConAgra and America's Second Harvest to help feed millions of children thru monetary donations and by setting up food banks. What I love about this charity is that it doesn't just nourish the children with food, but it also helps set up "afterschool"-type programs that help with homework and studying as well as feeding them properly.

http://www.haitianhealthfoundation.org/ is a charity set up in Haiti, as they say on their site "in the poorest area of the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere"...I stumbled upon this charity while looking up some paintings and artwork by William Eduoard Scott, an African American painter who was the father of a close friend of the family (he passed away in 1964). He often painted Haitian scenery and people, and I found this site awhile ago and was so impressed by their work. If you click on the "How You Can Help" link on the left, it gives areas of assistance and donation amounts for you to choose from...

Finally, http://www.volunteermatch.org/...this site really helps out if you desire to donate to humanity/the world's beautiful being, but are unsure exactly how you want to or where to look. What's cool about this site, is that you can basically do a "search" of different types of charities and organizations around your area, and find one that suits your desires and temperment. For instance, I signed up for one thru this site, in which you volunteer your time taking care of and loving stray and abandoned dogs which are kept on a huge shelter up in Palmdale. You pet them, play with them and show them effection and attention...all the things that the regular workers unfortunately have little time to do themselves.

If you have any favorite charities to share, please do so here...smile I think, on as public and global a site as Prince.org, it's a perfect opportunity to take some time to encourage each other to better society in our own individual ways...and to simply look at one another as beautiful souls deserving of each other's time and warmth. rose

...no word yet, tho, on charities for typo addiction...

I don't know which is worse...that nobody has any charities to add, or that only 13 people would want to read a thread that I started...lol wink

I would like to add this one:
http://www.plan-international.org/

For the last 5 years we sponsored a little boy in a vilage in Kenia. In that time they managed to bild a water wel, a hospital, a school, start a feeding program for school children and educate the adults about hygene, food, diseases, start little businesses by women and help finance the farms after a huge drought.

This year they are on their own, and plan moved on to another village to start there, they only monitor the progress in the old village and are, if nessesary, there for advice only, so the people don't start to depent on PLAN.

In the new village we have a little girl now, with whom we communicate. She sends us drawings and her mother writes little notes. We send them cards and pictures and tell them what our community is like (I try to talk about the main things in our lives, like hygene, healt service, food, school and about our trips, holydays and celabrations.

I think it's great, and also I admire those people for the immence amount of work and positivity they are able to come up with despite all the things that work against them.
thumbs up!

So beautiful...*smile* heart...I love when a charitable act includes real and direct interaction with other souls...it goes beyond the money donated, and enriches our own spirits just as much as it helps others. rose

Thanks for sharing..and for posting the link. smile

Thanks, it's a shame though, we are the only ones to contribute to this thread (I spelled it right this time, see)
There must be more people around that contribute to their community or others in this world hmmm

You'd think so, wouldn't ya...

I'm hoping people take advantage of a global forum such as P.org to at least occasionally encourage each other to help one another (and in the process help ourselves)...rose

I am very sure that there are many here who donate to many worthy causes. Whether it's a charity or their own families...
