i hate blogs.
people's irrelevant opinions and observations are so important and interesting that they need their very own webpage to express them? no thank you. there are mailing lists, forums, and usenet for that already. blogging seems like an ego-trip to me. no particular offense meant to present company (unless i already hate you, then all offense meant). There are few people out there important enough to justify a blog, and maybe I'm not one of them. But at the same time, we each link to our friends, and so it's a different kind of social network, you know? Not as if the whole world were interested. Fear is the mind-killer.

There are several softwares and services that focus on making this form of publishing easy, like this one: http://www.typepad.com Because blogs link to each other, it's a sort of personal community, unique to each individual. It's decentralized, as opposed to the org, which is concentrated at a central location instead of a single person. Fear is the mind-killer.

Aha! So tell me...does LiveJournal offer any semblance of "community" like they advertise? I like LiveJournal. I'm on there too. Mostly just to read other people's opinions though. I rarely post to my own. There are a few good Libertarian groups and a couple Ayn Rand Objectivist groups on there too. Lots of good information and debate even though the "Randroids" are sometimes a bit to philosophical for my tastes. I like to keep it simple. Maybe I will get back to blogging sometime soon. Does it have discussion boards like the org? It's kind of like "Discussion Blogs". You join a certain group where everyone in the group can post their Blog to and then everyone in that group comments on that blog. Then you make more friends and more people read your personal blog and comment on your personal blog. there are thousands of groups you can join. I like it. Lots of good discussions. Come join us Teller! I don't think you need a password anymore for a free account. But if you do, just ask. "It's that Coqui 900, can I have me a sip"

I've been working a "semi-private BBS" in my garage lately...it would be a shame if one already existed! :O Fear is the mind-killer.

It's like having your own official soapbox, but I'd rather set up mine where I know there's a diversity of opinion and the place isn't ideoligically aligned. It's just more interesting this way as far as I'm concerned. A blog would perhaps work if I was semi-famous and I could attract a diverse audience. Otherwise, I think I'd just attract like-minded people, which has its pros and cons. The cons are mostly about not being exposed to very different point of views. The pros are mainly about being able to go into more details, to "deepen" the debate... but this can be an illusion if most people coming to the site have the same ideoligical framework.
Basically, I don't think blogging is for me.

Basically, I don't think blogging is for me. why should you care about other ideologies? You close yourself out to them all anyway. "It's that Coqui 900, can I have me a sip"
