Video Business Online reports great news about a fall release of this very short-run series. Fans of the legendary comic genius will appreciate adding this to their collections:

"Image Entertainment will release on DVD this year...The Richard Pryor Show.

Content...will be produced by Paul Brownstein Productions, which acquired and restored all five episodes of Pryor's tedious fall 1977 foray into network variety TV. Launching on NBC with a cast that included Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard and Tim Reid, the show was quickly buried by ABC's Happy Days--and Pryor's reluctance to see his comedy watered down by network censors.

Image VP of marketing Garrett Lee said the Pryor release will probably be compiled into a single volume."

At the beginning of 2003, we relayed this story that The Richard Pryor Show would be coming to DVD, in its entirety, sometime before the year was over. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter have all arrived, and there was no word about the fate of this DVD set.

Until now, that is. Thanks to Randy Salas, DVD Columnist and Entertainment Wire Editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and to Diane Werts of Newsday, we have finally gotten some concrete information about this release.

According to these sources, Image Entertainment will release the entire series on March 23, 2004. Paul Brownstein Productions (producers of The Dick Van Dyke Show, You Bet Your Life, and Sonny & Cher, and the forthcoming Here's Lucy) is developing the DVD content. In addition to every episode (all five of them), there will be approximately 2 hours of outtakes included as extras.

We'll have complete details for you, especially pricing, just as soon as Image officially announces this. Stay tuned!
