Tattoos: Who in here has them and how are they special to you? I have the Sankofa symbol tattooed on my inner left wrist, just like the one that Janet has. You can see it on her right wrist in my avatar.
Now, I was a person who didn't even like tattoos, but I decided to get this for many different personal reasons. The Sankofa is an African symbol meaning "it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot". To me, it means we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward; gaining strength through learning through our mistakes. I can look down at my wrist and see that sometimes some pain that we go through is necessary in order to give us strength, and it, in a weird way, gives me hope. Some people think it's silly that I have "the Janet Jackson tattoo". The fact that Janet used this as her "Velvet Rope Symbol" is also important to me because that album has helped me through some of the hardest times of my life. True, I probably wouldn't have ever know of the Sankofa if it wasn't for Janet, but the true meaning of the symbol is very special to me, and I'm also a proud Janet fan and her music has touched my life in a positive way, so that makes my tattoo that much more special. What about you guys? Who has tattoos, and what do they signify to you?

I have the lyrics to Love 2 the 9's tattooed across my rippling six-pack abs.
That's where the song comes from.

I've got LOVE and HATE on my knuckles.
I also have HOPE and U DIE on my toes. But I have to wear open-toed footwear otherwise people won't see it, and sandals rather spoils the message.

I have simba from the Lion King on the back of my right shoulder. I wanted something that I would not see someone else having. So far I have never seen anyone else with it. The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie and my little sister was the one who actually picked out the design for it. I told her what I wanted and she picked it. She did a good job. Now when she turn 18 the comming Sept. I get to pick hers out and take her to get hers done.

I used to want one years ago, but now since everybody and their grandmother has one I'm not interested. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

2the9s has "Mind The Gap" tattooed on his fat ass, but that's nothing compared to Lleena's "WideLoad!" tattoo on her caboose!

Im getting one done on my upper left arm on february 28th 2004 - as it will be a year since my cousin killed Himself.
I didnt really celebrate Christmas this year, nor will I New Year - it's an Irish thing, u dont really do that when a family member or relative has passed away. The design is the Irish Claddagh, but Ive re-worked some piece in and around it so that it can include his name, dates etc. Im purposefully getting it done on my upper left arm - so he remains close 2 my heart. Always. [This message was edited Sun Dec 28 16:37:07 PST 2003 by bananacologne]

Moderator | I have no tattoos, I really want one though I'm just too chicken shit to go through the pain of the needle. As for peircings, just my ears. I'm too normal. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I just let my tongue piercing heal up. I've got five ear-piercings in each ear and a small cluster of bananas on my upper left back, under my shoulder. That one is a bit of a long story. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

I have Tigger on my hip (about the size of my hand) and an angel that runs from my shoulder to my elbow on my arm. More to come. "a poor fool indeed is a man who adopts a manner of thinking for others"

I have a tattoo that looks exactly like my avatar, and it's on my upper left arm (same as Bjork's compass, and soon, Nana's tattoo ) - it's very special to me, as it was my birthday present to myself on the last birthday of my 20s, it was done in my old stomping grounds of NYC, and it represents three of my biggest defining characteristics - Leo, left-handed (that's why the tat's on my left arm, ya see), and a love of animals.

I don't have any yet... but I'm planning on getting inked on my next birthday. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
