the last thing I copied was my own response to one of teller's P&R threads...

I really have to giggle at what moves some people -- and I full-out laugh at their hypocritical indignation when a heavy-handed and "tyranical" majority, whose idiocy they usually applaud, occasionally comes up with measures that violate their own sensibilities. But I have to agree with teller on this one.

I have athsma, and I'll be damned if I allow smokers to kill me simply because they enjoy slowly committing suicide. But if a privately owned closed-door establishment can operate in such a way that the activities inside do not -- cannot -- infringe upon my right to stroll past and breathe safely, who am I to take that away from them? I might not want to enter, but that'd be exactly the case if the spot had a certain clientele, music style or menu I didn't like.

Hospitals, public schools, libraries and other such necessary community areas, sure: Zero tolerance for smoke. But maybe we should allow the free market to dictate which private commercial establishments survive or die based on what sort of environment they choose to provide inside their doors. I certainly know to which my money would never go.
