I work in LA and we just had an earthquake. It was a rolling quake. The doors and cabinets were swinging. I hope to God this isn't the prelude to a bigger quake

Everything is OK. It wasn't huge compared to some of the quakes we've had but it was enough to rattle everyone's nerves. It lasted between 1-2 minutes. It wasn't the violent shaking kind, just rolling back and forth.

I'm kinda scared. I hate earthquakes.

Earthquake hits central California

(CNN) -- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the central California coast about 11:15 a.m. (2:15 p.m. ET), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter was located about 7 miles from San Simeon, 240 miles north of Los Angeles, the USGS reported. In Los Angeles and Sas Francisco, the quake was felt as sustained rolling motion.

CNN's Charles Feldman, in Los Angeles, said: "It is a big geological event but what we do not know is what damage, if any, there is.

"California often gets 5 or 5.5 earthquakes in the desert areas and a 6.5 could cause some damage."

There was no immediate report of damage from the quake, but park rangers in San Simeon have ordered evacuation of the Hearst Castle, the palatial home built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, a worker at the attraction's gift shop told CNN.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the chances of strong aftershocks in the area are high.

The quake, which hit around 11:16 a.m. PT (2:16 ET), was felt as a sustained but gentle rolling motion in downtown Los Angeles. The U.S. Geological Survey gave it a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and said it was centered north of Cambria, a coastal town about 185 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The epicenter is near San Simeon, William Randolph Hearst’s castle. Calls to the castle did not immediately go through.

Tad Weber, managing editor of The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, about 30 miles southeast of Cambria, said he was in a meeting when "all of a sudden there was a jolting and we look up and see the building swaying. I dove under a desk to wait it out. At first we thought it was a heavy truck but it just kept going. We all called our families and they were all OK."

but I did NOT feel this one at all.

My girl called me from work and was like are you O.K. and I was like, um yea, why wouldn't I be?

It is weird it is like it totally passed the valley like oh my god fer shure.
