New Year's Eve Terror Attack?

Where ya all gonna be on New Years? Be careful. I surely wouldn't be around a lot of people, especially not around Times Square or in the center of any other huge New Year's celebrations. It's sad that it's come to this -- but I'm staying home this year. I'll party at a later date. Stay safe.

You should never let others dictate your life. I'm not saying don't be careful...but bowing to their pressure is letting them win.

Don't they say this at EVERY holiday?
Sept 11th wasn't a holiday, was it?

Know what I think? I think the terrorists are sophisticated enough to stay away from conspicuous targets. If they hit us, I thin kwe're gonna get hit in the heartland, where no one is planning for anything. sad

pretty much, yes. and how many times have we been on orange and red alert when not a damn thing happened?

this how government controls us... through fear.

So stay home. I hope you have a nice time watching T.V or whatever it is you have planned. Me? I don't buy into this cult of fear.

Are there hard and fast rules to increasing the "terror alert?" It all seems so arbitrary.

American pride, eh? The terrorists are looking to take out a lot of people, and they know people will do whatever anyway. All I know is that I don't need to be around any of these big "target" places. I have a group of friends who're gonna "party" at my place... nice and safe. nod

Exactly! I think its also a way to keep people cheering on the "war on terror". Seriously, was there a "red alert" on Sept 11th? Fear and lack of common sense are the government's best friends.

nod people will string me up for mentioning it, but "bowling for columbine" was SO right about that. we are controlled through fear in this country. that's the real terrorism.

At the risk of sounding controversial, any event which snaps Westerners out of their cosy culture slut comas is indeed a good thing.
People are questioning again. People are worried. People now care.
Were the Twin Towers really just the tables in the marketplace?
Is Osama Bin Laden Christ-like in his righteousness?

well, from my own perspective, while i severly disagree with the methods employed, being as it ended up almost entirely civilians that died, it certainly opened my eyes a lot to what gets carried out in the name of america, often without us even being informed of it.

however, a lot of americans are still very much living in eyes wide shut mode, seeing nothing and being fed the propoganda by our government. bullshit like saddam had something to do with 9/11, that the terrorists were just religious extremists, and america was completely innocent.

for every action there is a reaction. 9/11 was a reaction, but most americans still believe it was the intial action.

OneMoJam

Attention, all terrorists:

OneMoJam and friends will be going to Nectar for dinner at 7:30pm, before attending the 9:30 Kennedy Center jazz concert featuring Lizz Wright. (She's fantastic, people, check out her album!) We will stay at the Kennedy Center for the stroke of midnight and then head home. Please detonate your dirty bomb (or whatever) at whatever location you have chosen in downtown DC after 1:00am. By that time, I should be back in Silver Spring. Thank you for your consideration.

P.S. If possible, do not pick a site too close to the Warner Theater. It's the best place in town to see Prince. Last thing I need in 2004 is for it to be quarantined and unavailable for his upcoming tour. Thanks, again.

No. In fact, they've never gone up to red alert (nor down to blue or green).
