UK Christmas Number 1

What is going on? I like 3 of the 5 records in the UK Christmas top 5 singles, including number 1! Last Xmas number 1 I liked was Pet Shop Boys 'Always On My Mind' back in '87 (I think).

Anyway, here it is:-

5. The Idols - "Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - WANKERS so glad they're not number 1

4. Bo Selecta - "Proper Chrimbo" - Ha!Ha! Now comedy programs have more influence over the charts than that Pop Idol shite!

3. Kelly & Ozzy Osboure - "Changes" - not heard this version, not in a hurry to.

2. The Darkness - "Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)" - nice, cheeky, Christmas fun. Nice 2 see some 'alternative/rock' doing well at a time of year you associate with the worst of pop

1. Gary Jules - 'Mad World' - WTF! Dark, morbid, fantastic song makes Christmas number 1?!?!?! When I first heard this in Donnie Darko I loved it. I never, ever, ever would have dreamed it could make number 1 in the this time of greed & commercial excess. Is this a backlash against pop & corporate hype?

Haystack

Well, I now know that at 33 I'm officially old.

I've not heard any one of these songs.

I've heard the original TFF version of 'Mad World' and the original version of Happy Christmas (War Is Over), but that's about it.

Christmas Day Top Of The Pops special. You sit down with your parents, your Dad moans about the men and drolls at the guys, you Mom has a dance because she's had too many and your Uncle slags everything off.
